Troopers Investigate Pair of Newark Area Robbery Incidents

Newark- Delaware State Police are currently investigating a pair of Newark area robbery incidents which occurred within minutes of each other last night.

The first incident occurred at approximately 7:17 p.m. last night, Thursday, March 16, 2017, as a male suspect entered the Wendy’s Restaurant, located at 2423 Pulaski Highway. The suspect then confronted a female employee who was standing behind the sales counter. He then demanded money from the cash register while implying that he was armed with a gun. The employee, however, did not comply with the suspect’s demands and ran to another area of the restaurant. The suspect then exited the business without obtaining any property and was last seen running toward westbound US Rt. 40. There were no injuries.

The suspect was described as a white male 25-40 years of age. He was 5’11”-6’01” tall, weighed 170-215 lbs., and was last seen wearing blue jeans, a brown jacket with a tan hooded sweatshirt underneath, and black sneakers.

The second incident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m., as a male suspect entered the Shore Stop/Valero, located at 796 Old Baltimore Pike. He then approached the sales counter and presented a male employee with a demand note for cash. The note implied that the suspect was armed, however, a weapon was not displayed. The clerk complied with the suspect’s demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of money to him. The suspect then exited the business and was last seen running in an eastbound direction on Old Baltimore Pike. The clerk was not injured.

The suspect was described as a white male. He was 20-30 years of age, 5’10”-6’00” tall, weighed 145-165 lbs., and was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and black sneakers.

Both of these incidents remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Detectives are exploring the possibility that both incidents were committed by the same suspect.
