Troopers Investigate Attempted Gas Station Robbery

Newark (19713)- Delaware State Police are currently investigating the attempted robbery of a gas station that occurred last night near Newark.

The initial investigation has determined that the incident occurred at approximately 9:43 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2017, as a male suspect entered the Exxon station located at 263 E. Chestnut Hill Road. The suspect then approached the sales counter and confronted a male employee, implying that he was armed with a gun. He then demanded money from the clerk. The clerk, however, ran from behind the counter and exited the business. The suspect also exited the gas station without obtaining any property, and was last seen running in an eastbound direction toward DE Rt. 4. The clerk was not injured.

The suspect was described as a black male. He was 18-22 years of age, 5’10” tall, had an average build, and was last seen wearing a dark blue hooded sweatshirt, dark colored sweatpants, sneakers, and had a mask partially covering his face. There is no further physical or clothing description available.
