New Castle (19720)- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate a serious hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian that occurred last night just south of Wilmington.

The initial investigation has determined that the incident occurred on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at approximately 9:06 p.m., as Dimere J. Young, 23, of New Castle, was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of DE Rt. 9 (New Castle Avenue) in the area of Harrison Avenue, walking in a westbound direction. As Young, who was not utilizing a marked cross walk, entered the southbound lanes, he stepped directly into the path of an unknown make and model vehicle. The force of the impact threw Young into the roadway where he came to rest. The striking vehicle did not stop and fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Dimere Young was treated at the scene by the New Castle County Paramedics. He was then transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital where he was admitted with life-threatening injuries.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Evidence at the scene suggests that the striking vehicle was grey in color. No further details about the striking vehicle or the operator are available.
