Troopers Investigate Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash – **Update**

Newark (19702)- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate a fatal motor vehicle crash which has claimed the life of a 25 year old man that occurred this morning in Newark.

The investigation thus far has determined that the crash occurred this morning, Thursday, January 12, 2017 at approximately 4:02 a.m., as Maria Campos, 50, of Bear, DE, was operating a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe and was traveling in a westbound direction on Old Baltimore Pike just west of the Salem Church Road and Salem Woods Road intersection. It was at this time that the Tahoe ran over a 25 year old Newark man who was reported to have been laying in the westbound lane of travel. The male was drug several feet in a westbound direction until the Tahoe came to a controlled stop just west of the scene.

The male victim was declared dead at the scene. His name is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin. Alcohol use on the part of the victim is being considered as a contributing factor in the collision.

Maria Campos was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was not injured.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Old Baltimore Pike was closed between both the north and south  extensions of Salem Church Road for approximately 2.5 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

Newark (19702)- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a motor vehicle crash which has claimed the life of a male subject that occurred this morning in Newark.

The initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred at approximately 4:02 a.m. this morning, Thursday, January 12, 2017, in the 500 block of Old Baltimore Pike, Newark. As a result of the crash a male pedestrian has been declared dead. There were no other injuries.

The circumstances surrounding this incident is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time. Further details will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.
