Date Posted: Friday, November 18th, 2016

Penny Hill- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate a motor vehicle crash which has claimed the life of an 84-year-old male pedestrian that occurred last night just north of Wilmington.

The initial investigation has determined that the incident happened at approximately 6:48 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2016, as an 84-year-old Wilmington, DE man was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of Philadelphia Pike, just north of the Washington Street Extension, in an eastbound direction. As the male subject entered the right hand lane, he stepped directly into the path of a 2010 Toyota Tundra which was being operated by Daniel A. Streevy, 32, of Wilmington. The front of the Tundra struck the male pedestrian who then fell into the right hand lane where he came to rest. Daniel Streevy was able to bring his vehicle to a controlled stop at the scene.

The male victim, who was wearing all dark clothing and was not crossing at a marked cross walk, was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics. He was then transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The victim’s name is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.

Daniel Streevy was properly restrained at the time of the crash and was not injured.

Both northbound lanes and one southbound lane of Philadelphia Pike were closed for a period of time as the crash was investigated and cleared.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police.
