**Traffic Advisory** State Police Investigating Serious Crash – Prices Corner – Update

Date Posted: Monday, November 14th, 2016

Prices Corner- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate a crash which occured last night that has claimed the life of a 42-year-old Wilmington, DE woman.

The investigation has determined that the crash occurred at approximately 6:22 p.m. on Sunday, November 13, 2016, as Alexia McAvaney, 42, of Wilmington, was attempting to cross the eastbound lanes of DE. Rt. 2 (Kirkwood Highway) just east of Duncan Road, in a southbound direction. As McAvaney entered into the middle lane, she was struck by a 2008 Toyota Highlander which was being operated by Cherilene Guzman, 18, of Wilmington. McAvaney, who was dressed in all dark clothing and was not crossing at a marked cross walk, was vaulted up onto the hood of the car before coming to rest in the middle lane of eastbound Kirkwood Highway. Cherilene Guzman was able to bring her vehicle to a controlled stop at the scene.

Alexia McAvaney was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics. She was then transported to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where she was pronounced dead. Cherilene Guzman, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was not injured. Alcohol use on the part of the victim and Cherilene Guzman does not appear to be a factor in this crash.

The eastbound lanes of DE Rt. 2 were closed for a period of time as the crash was investigated and cleared.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
