Troopers Investigate Serious Motor Vehicle Crash – Hartly

Hartly, DE – The Delaware State Police is currently investigating a serious crash that occurred south of Hartly this morning.

The preliminary investigation revealed the incident occurred around 9:10 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 as Harold G. Young, 67 of Hartly, was operating a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck at the intersection of Slaughter Station Road attempting to turn left onto SR 8 eastbound. It was reported that another vehicle was northbound on Tuxward Road and failed to stop at the stop sign which caused Young to swerve onto the left shoulder of SR 8. After stopping on the westbound shoulder he reentered Halltown Road to go east and drove into the path of a 1989 Honda Civic operated by a 17 year old male of Marydel. Both vehicles struck each other head on and remained in the westbound lane.

Harold G. Young, 67 of Hartly who was properly restrained was removed by EMS and transported to the Kent General Hospital for his serious but non-life threatening injuries. He was charged with Inattentive Driving.

The 17 year old male driver was properly restrained and was transported by EMS to Kent General Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. His 18 year old male passenger, also properly restrained, was airlifted by the Delaware State Police Aviation Unit to the Christiana Hospital Medical Center for the serious injuries he sustained. Another 15 year old male passenger, properly restrained, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by EMS to Kent General Hospital.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Halltown Road near Slaughter Station Road in the area of the collision was closed approximately two hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

Hartly, DE- Delaware State Police are currently investigating a serious two vehicle crash which occurred this morning south of Hartly, De.

The initial investigation has determined the crash occurred at approximately 9:10 a.m. this morning, Saturday, October 29, 2016 on (SR 8) Halltown Road at Slaughter Station Road, Hartly. The extent of the injuries are unknown at this time.

SR 8 Halltown Road has been closed to traffic in both directions at the crash scene and commuters should expect slowing in the area.Commuters are advised to seek alternate routes of travel.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Further information will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.
