Trooper Arrest Student for Bringing Handgun to School

Wilmington- Delaware State Police arrested a Wilmington teenager today after he was found in possession of a loaded handgun while attending the John Dickinson High School in the Red Clay Consolidated School District.

The preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred at approximately 9:25 a.m. today, October 28, 2016 as school officials were informed that a student was in possession of a handgun. School officials and the trooper, assigned to the school as the School Resource Officer (SRO), quickly responded to the gymnasium and located the student. During the investigation a loaded handgun was found to be in the student’s possession in his book bag. The student was immediately taken into custody without incident and the weapon was safely secured and seized as evidence.

Caron J. Collins, 16 of Wilmington, was transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with Possession of a Firearm by Prohibited Juvenile, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon and Possession of a Weapon in a Safe School Zone. He was arraigned with a parent before the New Castle County Family Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center in default of $18,000.00 cash bond. (mug shot attached)
