**Traffic Advisory** Troopers Investigating Crash Involving School Bus – Update

Newark, De- Delaware State Troopers are investigating a crash between a passenger car and a school bus occupied with students from a local school.

The incident occurred around 6:55 a.m. Wednesday October 19, 2016 as Ahmad J. Abdullah, 49, of Wilmington, was operating a 1999 Toyota Corolla eastbound on Old Baltimore Pike preparing to make a left had turn onto Salem Church Road, Newark. As Ahmad approached the intersection, he failed to stop on a solid red traffic signal.

John Ewasko, 55 of Wilmington, was operating a 2013 International School bus and was traveling westbound on Old Baltimore Pike. He attempted to avoid the Toyota Corolla by taking evasive action and swerving, however the vehicles collided. After the collision, both vehicles were able to come to a controlled stop on the shoulder of Old Baltimore Pike.

Abdullah was properly restrained and was treated by New Castle County Paramedics at the scene of the collision before being transported to Christiana Hospital by ambulance for non-life threatening injuries. He was cited for Failure to Stop at a Red Light by Delaware State Police.

A 13-year-old female passenger of the Toyota Corolla was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics and transported to Christiana Hospital by ambulance where she was treated for her non-life threatening injuries.

John Ewasko was also properly restrained and treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics before being transported to Christiana Hospital by ambulance for non-life threatening injuries.

All 37 students from Newark Charter School were uninjured in the collision.

The roadway was closed for approximately One hour while being investigated and cleared.

Newark, DE- Delaware State Police are currently investigating a two vehicle crash involving a school bus which occurred this morning.

The initial investigation has determined that the crash happened at approximately 6:56 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at the intersection of Old Baltimore Pike and Salem Church Road, Newark, and involves a passenger car and a school bus with several children on board. There were injuries in the crash, however, the exact number of injured subjects and the extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

The intersection of Old Baltimore Pike and Salem Church Road has been closed to traffic and commuters are asked to find alternate routes of travel.

The investigation into this crash is in its early stages. More information will be released as it becomes available.
