Troopers Investigating Motorcycle Crash – Middletown

Middletown, DE- The Delaware State Police is currently investigating a serious motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that occurred this evening southeast of Middletown.

The initial investigation has determined the crash occurred tonight, Sunday October 16, 2016 at approximately 7:02 p.m., as Elmer P. McComas, 51 of New Castle, was operating a 2009 Harley Davidson FKC motorcycle northbound on DuPont Parkway (US 13) approaching the Old State Road intersection. A 2007 Ford Focus, operated by Nicholas G. Alexander, 32 of Smyrna, was westbound on Old State Road entering the intersection to turn left onto US 13 south in front of the motorcycle. The Ford Focus struck the motorcycle which caused the operator to be ejected off the motorcycle. The Ford Focus stopped in the intersection and the motorcycle continued approximately one mile northbound on US 13 until it veered east off the road and struck a ditch.

Elmer P. McComas, 51 of New Castle, was wearing a helmet. He was treated by the New Castle County paramedics and then was transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Nicholas G. Alexander, 32 of Smyrna, was not injured in the collision. He was cited for Failure to Remain Stopped at a Stop Sign.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. US 13 and Old State Road was impacted for approximately 20 minutes as the crash was investigated and cleared.
