Troopers Investigate Serious Motor Vehicle Crash-New Castle

New Castle, DE – The Delaware State Police is currently investigating a serious crash with multiple vehicles that occurred north of New Castle this morning.

The preliminary investigation revealed the incident occurred around 11:19 a.m. Sunday, October 16, 2016 as Harold Clare, 84 of Pennsylvania, was operating a 2006 Toyota Sienna westbound on I-295 in the left lane approaching I-495 overpass. A 2016 Hyundai Elantra, operated by Deborah A. Newman, 61 of New Jersey, was directly behind the Sienna. As the driver of the Toyota Sienna began to decrease speed due to traffic congestion ahead the Hyundai Elantra failed to stop in time and struck the rear center of the Sienna. This caused a 2004 Mercedes Benz, operated by Carole M. Mixon, 71 of New Jersey, to rear end the Elantra. Another 2003 Mercedes Benz, operated by Willa M. Robinson, 68 of North Carolina struck the rear of the first Mercedes. A 2007 Ford Taurus directly behind the second Mercedes, operated by Christopher Harrington, 39 of Massachusetts , swerved to the right lane to avoid the collisions and was struck by a 2011 tractor trailer, operated by Quintae L. Hall, 36 of Pennsylvania. All vehicles came to rest in the two westbound lanes of I-295.

Christopher Harrington, 39 of Massachusetts, operator of the Ford Taurus was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics before being transported by EMS to the Christiana Hospital Medical Center where he was treated for his serious injuries.

Willa M. Robinson, 68 of North Carolina, was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics before being removed by EMS and transported to the Christiana Hospital Medical Center where she was treated for her non-life threatening injuries. Kristin Robinson was a passenger and was not injured.

Carole M. Mixon, 71 of New Jersey, was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics before being removed by EMS and transported to the Christiana Hospital Medical Center where she was treated for her non-life threatening injuries. Raymond Mixon, 67 of New Jersey, was a passenger and was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Quintae L. Hall, 36 of Pennsylvania, operator of the tractor trailer was not injured in the collision.

Deborah A. Newman, 61 of New Jersey, and her passenger Francis Newman were not injured in the collision. Deborah A. Newman was cited for Following too Closely.

Harold Clare, 84 of Pennsylvania operator of the Toyota Sienna and passenger Regina Camplone, 77 of New Jersey, was not injured in the collision.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. I-295 westbound in the area of the collisions was closed approximately one hour as the crash was investigated and cleared.
