Troopers Investigate Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

New Castle, DE- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash which claimed the life of a New Castle woman this morning.

The initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred this morning, Thursday, October 13, 2016 at approximately 1:15 a.m. as Elisabeth Ballance, 31, of New Castle, was operating a 2000 Chevrolet Camaro and was traveling on the ramp from northbound I-95 to Airport Road and DE Rt. 141, New Castle. For an unknown reason, Ballance failed to remain in her lane and traveled into a grass area that divides the roadways. The Camaro then struck a cement drainage culvert and a wooden utility pole before coming to rest in the grassy area.

Elisabeth Ballance was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown if she was properly restrained at the time of the crash. It is also unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

The ramp from I-95 northbound to Airport Road and DE Rt. 141 was closed for approximately 2 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
