Troopers Investigate Robbery of Grocery Store Customer

Newark, DE- Delaware State Police are currently investigating the armed robbery of a customer of a Newark area grocery store that occurred yesterday evening.

The initial investigation has determined that the incident happened on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at approximately 7:45 p.m., as a 19 year old male was approaching his vehicle which was parked in the parking lot of the Safeway, located at 2400 Peoples Plaza, Newark. It was at this time that the victim was approached by two male suspects, one of which was armed with an unknown make and model handgun, who immediately began assaulting him. They then demanded money as well as the victim’s cell phone. The victim complied with the suspect’s demands and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash as well as his cell phone to the suspects. The suspects then attempted to enter the victim’s vehicle but were unsuccessful. They then fled on foot in a southbound direction. The victim suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene.

The first suspect was described as a black male 16-17 years of age. He was 5’06” – 5’07” tall, had a thin build, and was last seen wearing a white shirt and blue shorts.

The second suspect was described as a black male 19-20 years of age. He was 5’09”-5’10” tall, had a large build, and was last seen wearing a black shirt and black shorts. He was also armed with a handgun. There is no further physical or clothing description for either suspect. Video surveillance photos are not available to be released at this time.
