**Original Release**

New Castle, DE- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred Saturday evening which has claimed the life of a female pedestrian.

The investigation has determined that the crash occurred Saturday August 6, 2016, at approximately 9:33 p.m., as an unidentified female was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of US13 (South DuPont Highway) at Llangollen Boulevard, in a westbound direction.  As the pedestrian, who was in or near a marked crosswalk but was not utilizing the crosswalk signal, entered into the center lane of travel, she was struck by a 2014 Hyundai Sonata, which was being operated by Ciaron L.H. Robertson, 18 of Bear.  The Sonata, which was traveling in an southbound direction on US13, had a solid green traffic light and was behind another vehicle that had just swerved around the pedestrian and avoided striking her. The force of the collision threw the pedestrian in an southerly direction into the northbound left turn lane. Ciaron Robertson was able to bring her vehicle to a controlled stop at the scene.

The female victim was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics. She was then transported by ambulance to the Christiana Hospital where she was pronounced dead. The victim’s name is being withheld pending identification and notification of his next of kin.

Ciaron Robertson, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was not injured.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. Alcohol, drugs, and speed on the part of Ciaron Robertson is not being considered as a factor in this crash.  It is unknown if alcohol or drug use on the part of the victim was a factor.

The southbound portion of the intersection at US13 and Llangollen Boulevard was closed for approximately two and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
