Troopers Investigating Shooting – Newport

Newport– The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a shooting that occurred just north of Newport.

Preliminary investigation reveals the incident occurred around 7:18 p.m. this evening, Saturday August 6, 2016 after troopers were dispatched to the area of Burnside Boulevard and Newport Gap Pike.  A 24-year-old male victim was located seated in his vehicle with a gunshot wound to his upper torso.  He was treated on the scene by New Castle County Paramedics and subsequently transported to an area hospital where he is currently listed in stable condition undergoing treatment.

This is an active and ongoing investigation with detectives continuing their investigation by conducting interviews and collecting evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.  No suspect information is available at this time.
