Troopers Investigate Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

Townsend, DE- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit has identified the 41 year old Philadelphia, PA man who was the operator of the Ford Escape involved in the fatal motor vehicle crash on SR 1 in Townsend on Wednesday, July 20, 2016, as Corey Fahey.

This crash remains under investigation.

Townsend, DE- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a single vehicle crash which has claimed the life of a Philadelphia man that occurred early this morning.

The initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred at approximately 12:40 a.m. this morning, Wednesday, July 20, 2016, as a 41 year old Philadelphia, PA, man was operating a 2005 Ford Escape and was traveling in a northbound direction on SR1, just north of Fieldsboro Road, Townsend. For an unknown reason, the Escape drifted off of the east side of the roadway where it then struck a concrete barrier. The vehicle then traveled approximately 50’ in a northbound direction before coming to rest.

The male operator of the Ford, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was treated at the scene by New Castle County Paramedics. He was then transported by EMS to the Christiana Care Middletown Emergency Room, where he was subsequently pronounced dead. The victim’s name is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit. It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

Northbound traffic on SR1 was restricted to one lane for approximately 2 hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
