The Delaware State Police would like to share this information on road closures and expected traffic delays provided by the Delaware Department of Transportation.

A message from DELDOT Press Release — June 7, 2016 Oversized Loads To Travel Kent and New Castle Roads Dover — The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) announces their contractor, Mumford & Miller Concrete Inc. will be receiving multiple shipments of pre-cast beams starting tomorrow, June 8, to erect a new bridge over Puncheon Run Creek and Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks for the West Dover Connector Project. Shipment of the beams from Pottsville, PA to Dover will take place over multiple days and require the temporary daytime closures of the northbound and southbound lanes of the Roth Bridge on Delaware Route 1 in the form of rolling roadblocks. These closures are a permit requirement by the US Army Corps of Engineers and will occur for short periods of time during non-rush hour traffic from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. beginning on Wednesday, June 8; Monday, June 13; Tuesday, June 14; Monday, June 20 through Thursday, June 23; Monday, June 27 through Thursday, June 30; Tuesday, July 5; and Wednesday, July 6. Other portions of the route — the I-495 bridges over the Christina River and Norfolk Southern Railroad tracks — will require speed reductions to 15 mph in one southbound lane. Traffic delays are expected. The following roadways will experience temporary road closures or delays: -I-495 southbound to I-95 southbound — including 15 mph speed limits on the Christina River Bridge and the bridge over the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks -SR 1 southbound to Dover -Roth Bridge northbound and southbound will be completely closed with rolling road blocks -Exit 104/Scarborough Road -Delaware Route 15 southbound to Wyoming Mill Road Delaware State Police and DelDOT personnel will accompany the oversized loads with temporary road blocks and provide intersection control along the routes. The shipments will typically include the use of two tractor-trailers. The maximum load length will be 190 feet and the heaviest load will be 234,500 pounds. The beams are being shipped from Northeast Prestressed Products, LLC in Pottsville, Pennsylvania to Dover. DelDOT and the US Army Corps of Engineers have previously approved the movement of similar loads through the state, including over the Roth Bridge. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for the Roth Bridge. The state of Pennsylvania does not allow superloads to occur at night and temporary storage of the beams on the roadside until night hours in Delaware is not safe. The load is not weather dependent and no loads will be permitted on Fridays, Saturdays or Sundays and during the Firefly Festival on June 15 through June 19.
