Milton, DE – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash that occurred this afternoon north of Milton.

The preliminary investigation has determined the crash occurred on Friday, June 03, 2016 at 1:24 p.m., as Joshua P. Courts, 23 of Dover, was operating a 2007 EX6 Kawasaki motorcycle in the left southbound lane of SR 1 just north of the intersection of SR 5. Penny J. Jeffries, 67 of Pennsylvania, was operating a 2007 Lincoln MKZ, was stopped on the northbound SR 5 for a stop sign posted on SR 1. Jeffries pulled from the stop sign in an attempt to cross the southbound travel lanes and enter the median crossover to turn northbound. As a result, the front of the Kawasaki struck the driver’s side door of the Lincoln MKZ within the southbound left lane. The Lincoln came to rest upright in the median crossover facing northbound. Courts was ejected from the motorcycle at impact and came to rest next to the motorcycle which fell onto its left side facing in a westerly direction just west of the vehicle.

Joshua P. Courts, who was wearing a helmet at the time, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Penny J. Jeffries, who was wearing a seatbelt, was flown by Lifenet to the Christiana Medical Center where she was admitted with serious injuries.

(SR 1) Coastal Highway southbound was closed for approximately 1 ½ hours and north bound was restricted to one lane during the investigation while the crash was investigated and cleared.

 Troopers Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash – Milton

 Milton, DE- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into a fatal motor vehicle crash on SR1 northbound Coastal Highway in the area of SR 5 Union Street Extended which involved a single vehicle and a motorcycle.

SR1 northbound and southbound are now currently open in that area.

Details surrounding the crash will be released when they become available.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash

Milton, DE- Delaware State Police are currently investigating a motor vehicle crash involving a motorcycle that occurred this afternoon north of Milton, De.

The initial investigation has determined the crash occurred at 1:25 p.m. today, Friday, June 3, 2016, on SR 1 Coastal Highway in the area of SR 5 Union Street Extended involving a single vehicle and a motorcycle.

The southbound lanes of SR1 and one lane of SR 1 northbound in the area of the crash are closed at this time. Commuters are asked to use caution and find alternate means of travel around the scene.

More details of the crash will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.
