Bear – A joint investigation between the Delaware State Police Governor’s Task Force, Probation and Parole and the Town of Newport Police Department has resulted in the arrest of two men as well as the seizure of a large quantity of illicit drugs.
On Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at approximately 10:00 p.m., Governor’s Task Force members were conducting proactive patrols when they observed a black, Nissan Altima being driven by 23 year old Charles D. Smith of Newark, who they knew had active warrants. Officers from the Newport Police Department performed a traffic stop on the vehicle on Centerville Rd. in the area of Old Capitol Trail and took Smith in to custody without incident. A subsequent search of the vehicle produced 6 ounces of methamphetamine. A passenger in the Altima, 25 year old Jaime N. Antunez of Bear, was then also taken in to custody without incident.
Further investigation resulted in a search being conducted at a residence located in the 600 block of S. Huckleberry Ave. in Bear, which resulted in the seizure of the following:
Charles D. Smith was charged with the following:
Smith was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #11 and then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $241,500.00 cash bail.
Jaime N. Antunez was charged with the following:
Antunez was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #11 and then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $201,500.00 cash bail.
