The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a crash that resulted in the arrest of Anthony Kungu (no photograph available), 35, of Bear, DE after he collided with a state police vehicle.
At approximately 0325, this morning, Sunday, October 23, 2022, a trooper was traveling southbound Route 896 in the left lane approaching the intersection of Old Baltimore Pike. The trooper operating a state police Tahoe, slowed down for a red traffic signal. At the time, a 2015 Dodge Charger operated by Kungu, was traveling southbound Route 896 in the left lane approaching the intersection of Old Baltimore Pike. Kungu failed to slow down his Dodge Charger for the red traffic signal at the intersection. As a result, the front of the Charger collided with the rear of the Tahoe. The force of the collision pushed the Tahoe into the intersection where it came to a final rest.
The trooper and Kungu were both transported to an area hospital where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
During the on-scene investigation, it was suspected that Anthony Kungu was operating his vehicle under the influence, and a DUI investigation ensued.
