Superintendent Colonel William Crotty
The Delaware State Police arrested 23-year-old Omar Martinez of Wilmington, Delaware, for a burglary that occurred early this morning at a car dealership in Wilmington.
On November 12, 2024, at approximately 1:06 a.m., troopers responded to a report of a burglary at Preston Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram of Wilmington, located at 3807 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington. Upon arriving, troopers observed an unknown suspect in the showroom. With the assistance of officers from the New Castle County Police Department, troopers established a perimeter around the dealership. Troopers then gave verbal commands for the suspect, later identified as Omar Martinez, to exit the building. Martinez initially complied, however, began resisting arrest and was ultimately taken into custody after a Taser deployment. Following the arrest, troopers searched Martinez’s backpack, which led to the discovery of a hammer inside. The preliminary investigation revealed that Martinez entered the showroom by breaking a glass window on the west side of the business.
Martinez was taken to Troop 2, where he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11, and released on an $8,000 unsecured bond.
