Traffic Stop Leads to Drug and Weapon Arrest

Delaware State Police have arrested 33-year-old Dominique Mozelle of Newark, DE on drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop that occurred this morning in the New Castle area.

On March 6, 2023, at approximately 6:26 a.m., a trooper on patrol observed a gray Mazda 3 traveling northbound Interstate 495 in the area of North DuPont Highway (Route 13) over the posted speed limit. A traffic stop was initiated, and contact was made with the operator and sole occupant, identified as Dominique Mozelle. Immediately upon contact, the trooper smelled an odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle and observed suspected marijuana in the cup holder. Subsequently, a probable cause search was conducted, and the trooper discovered a loaded 9mm Springfield Hellcat handgun and approximately 16.82 grams of marijuana.

Mozelle was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 1 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Possession of Marijuana (Civil)
  • Driving Vehicle at an Unreasonable or Imprudent Speed

Mozelle was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 2 and released on his own recognizance.
