Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred Wednesday morning in the New Castle area that resulted in the arrest of Anthony Nash, 39, of New Castle, DE for vehicular homicide.

On December 21, 2022, at approximately 7:33 a.m., a 2016 Kia Sorento was traveling northbound Route 13 in the left lane in the area of Gracelawn Memorial Cemetery. At the time, a 2016 Cadillac ATS was traveling northbound Route 13 in the right lane in the same area. The Cadillac was reported driving in an erratic manner and quickly changed lanes from the right lane into the middle lane and then into the left lane. When the Cadillac changed into the left lane its rear left side struck the right side of the Kia. The force of the impact pushed the Kia into the left turn lane of northbound Route 13 where it continued traveling into the southbound lanes of Route 13. A 2006 International 4500 that was traveling in the middle lane of southbound Route 13 attempted to avoid the Kia, but ultimately the vehicles had a head-on collision.

The operator of the Kia, a 63-year-old male of Bear, DE was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

The operator of the International, a 67-year-old male was transported to an area hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The operator of the Cadillac, identified as Anthony Nash, was not injured during the collision. Nash was suspected of being under the influence at the time of the crash and a subsequent impaired driving investigation ensued.

Nash was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following crimes:

• Vehicular Homicide Second Degree (Felony)
• Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of a Drug
• Improper Lane Change

Nash was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released after posting bail on a $4,501 secured bond.

Route 13 southbound was closed for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated, and the roadway cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Troopers are asking anyone who witnessed this collision to please contact Sergeant J.
