Traffic Stop Leads to Drug and Weapon Arrest

New Castle- Delaware State Police arrested Ronny Bailey, 35, of New Castle, DE, on drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop Tuesday night.

On March 22, 2022, at approximately 11:10 p.m., Delaware State Police New Castle County Governor’s Task Force (GTF) members were on patrol in the area of Route 13 and Bacon Avenue. A unit member observed a silver Lexus traveling northbound Route 13 and fail to signal while making a lane change. A traffic stop was initiated and upon contact the trooper immediately smelled an odor of marijuana emitting from inside of the vehicle. All four occupants of the vehicle were detained, and a probable cause search was conducted. During the search troopers discovered a Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun with an obliterated serial number, one 9mm magazine containing 12 rounds of ammunition, 18 pills of ecstasy, approximately 15 grams of marijuana, a taser, and a digital scale.

Through the investigation and the location of the discovered items above, it was determined they belonged to rear passenger identified as Ronny Bailey. The other three occupants were not charged.

Bailey was transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited Previously Convicted of a Violent Felony (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by Person Prohibited (Felony)- 2 counts
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Possession of a Weapon with an Obliterated Serial Number (Felony)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance Tier 1 Quantity (Felony)
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Bailey was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $45,500 secured bond.
