Date Posted: Thursday, July 15th, 2021

Milton, DE- Delaware State Police arrested Ryan P. Nay,24, of Milford, on felony criminal charges after attempting to break into a Milton area convenience store.

On July 14, 2021, at approximately 4:46 a.m., troopers were dispatched to Shore Stop located at 25776 Deep Branch Road, Milton, for a burglary alarm activation. When troopers arrived on scene, they observed the front door and large pane front window damaged, but no entry was made into the business. The investigation revealed Ryan P. Nay arrived at Shore Stop in a black SUV, exits the vehicle, and approached the front door with an old concrete parking bumper. Nay attempted several times to use the concrete bumper to gain entry into the business but was unsuccessful. He then attempted to use a metal object he found in the area, attempting to pry open the door but was again unsuccessful. After not gaining entry with the second object, he locates a metal canister in the area and attempts to throw it through the door and then the large window with negative results. Nay then flees the area after not successfully gaining entry into the business.

Through investigative leads, Nay was established as a suspect. He was located, taken into custody without incident, and charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession of Burglar Tools (Felony)
  • Attempt to Commit Burglary Third Degree (Felony)
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Wearing a Disguise During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)

Nay was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $10,000.00 cash bond.
