Troopers Arrest Two Georgia Men on Weapons Charges Following Traffic Stop- Wilmington

Wilmington- Delaware State Police arrested 28-year-old Ryan Freeman of Jonesboro, GA, and 25-year-old Shaquayvis Asberry of Riverdale, GA, on weapons charges following a traffic stop Saturday morning.

On January 16, 2021, at approximately 9:05 a.m., a trooper working patrol on northbound I-495 south of 12th Street, observed a silver Dodge Avenger traveling northbound I-495 commit multiple traffic violations. The trooper initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the operator, later identified as Ryan Freeman, and the front seat passenger, later identified as Shaquayvis Asberry. Also traveling inside of the vehicle was a 13-year-old juvenile male. Upon contact, the trooper detected an odor of marijuana emitting from inside of the vehicle and a criminal investigation ensued. A probable cause search was conducted, and the trooper discovered the following ten guns inside of the vehicle, three of which were stolen:

  • Glock 23 40 caliber
  • Sig Sauer P320 9mm
  • Taurus G2C 9mm
  • Smith and Wesson M&P 40 caliber
  • Glock 37 .45 G.A.P.
  • Taurus Millennium .45ACP
  • SteyrS40-A1 .40 caliber
  • Springfield Operator .45 caliber
  • Taurus PT 945 .45 ACP
  • Smith and Wesson M&P 40 Shield

Freeman and Asberry were taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 1 where they were each charged with the following crimes:

Ryan Freeman

  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon a Firearm (Felony) – 10 counts
  • Receiving a Stolen Firearm (Felony) – 3 counts
  • Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony)
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Failure to Have Insurance Identification in Possession
  • Failed to Remain Within a Single Lane
  • No License Plate Shall Be Covered with Tinted Material

Freeman was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $118,000 cash bond.

Shaquayvis Asberry

  • Possession of a Firearm by Person Prohibited (Felony) – 10 counts
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon a Firearm (Felony) – 10 counts
  • Receiving a Stolen Firearm (Felony) – 3 counts
  • Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony)
  • Endangering the Welfare of a Child
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Asberry was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $477,000 cash bond.

The juvenile male was transported to Troop 1 where he was turned over to a family member.
