Wilmington- Delaware State Police arrested 28-year-old Ryan Freeman of Jonesboro, GA, and 25-year-old Shaquayvis Asberry of Riverdale, GA, on weapons charges following a traffic stop Saturday morning.
On January 16, 2021, at approximately 9:05 a.m., a trooper working patrol on northbound I-495 south of 12th Street, observed a silver Dodge Avenger traveling northbound I-495 commit multiple traffic violations. The trooper initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the operator, later identified as Ryan Freeman, and the front seat passenger, later identified as Shaquayvis Asberry. Also traveling inside of the vehicle was a 13-year-old juvenile male. Upon contact, the trooper detected an odor of marijuana emitting from inside of the vehicle and a criminal investigation ensued. A probable cause search was conducted, and the trooper discovered the following ten guns inside of the vehicle, three of which were stolen:
Freeman and Asberry were taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 1 where they were each charged with the following crimes:
Ryan Freeman
Freeman was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $118,000 cash bond.
Shaquayvis Asberry
Asberry was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $477,000 cash bond.
The juvenile male was transported to Troop 1 where he was turned over to a family member.
