Newark – The Delaware State Police have arrested Phillip White of Pennsylvania, with the theft of a motor vehicle and related charges after leading state police in a pursuit Friday morning.
The incident occurred on January 15, 2021 at approximately 4:58 a.m., when troopers were dispatched to Verizon located at 945 South Chapel Street, Newark, in reference to a trespassing complaint. A Verizon employee reported a suspicious subject was inside the fenced in parking lot at the business. Upon arrival, troopers observed a Verizon utility truck exit the business and drive erratically onto southbound South Chapel Street. Troopers initiated a motor vehicle stop, but the suspect fled at a high rate of speed. The suspect continued traveling until reaching a dead end on Bellevue Road. The suspect exited the stolen vehicle and fled on foot into the woods. Delaware State Police Aviation canvassed the area and located the suspect. Troopers on the ground were directed towards the suspect’s location and took him into custody without further incident.
White was transported back to Troop 6 where he was processed and charged with following:
White was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $7,001.00 cash bond.
