Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest – Newark

Newark – The Delaware State Police have arrested 26 year old Tyler Unkle of Dameron, MD, on felony drug related charges as a result of a traffic stop on I-95 on Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at approximately 5:43 p.m., a Trooper on routine patrol on I-95 northbound in the area of Rt. 72 observed a gray, VW Jetta being driven at a high rate of speed and in an aggressive manner. A traffic stop was conducted at which time contact was made with Unkle, who was the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. Based on information obtained during the interaction with Unkle a search was conducted of his person and the vehicle. Unkle was found to be in possession 18.7 grams of heroin/fentanyl packaged in individual plastic bags. A search of the vehicle produced 12 prescription pills, which were not prescribed to Unkle.

Unkle was transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance in a Tier 3 Quantity
  • Possession with Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance in a Tier 3 Quantity
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Speeding
  • Following Too Close
  • Failure to Signal

Unkle was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #11 and then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $40,103 secured bail.
