Middletown – The Delaware State Police have arrested three subjects, all from Philadelphia, on Organized Retail Crime related charges, in connection with recent thefts from southern New Castle County liquor stores.

On Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at approximately 4:15 p.m., a theft took place at Summit Liquors located at 4475 Summit Bridge Rd., Middletown. A second theft then occurred at approximately 4:57 p.m., at Smith Liquors, located at 5988 Summit Bridge Rd. in Townsend.

In each incident it was reported that two females and two male suspects entered the businesses and proceeded to conceal multiple bottles of high end liquor in bags, and then fled without paying. The suspects were observed fleeing each scene in a black Toyota SUV with Illinois tags. A combined total of approximately$1700.00 in alcohol was stolen during the two incidents.

On Thursday April 30, Troopers obtained information that the suspect vehicle was seen in the vicinity of a Smyrna area liquor store. Troopers responded the area and were able to locate the vehicle on SR 1 in the area of Exit 114, Smyrna. A traffic stop was conducted at which time three occupants of the vehicle were taken in to custody without incident. During a subsequent search of the vehicle Troopers recovered multiple bottles of liquor, valued at approximately $1000.00. Also discovered during the search were shoplifting tools, to include multiple bags and a security tag removal device.

The suspects, later identified as 51 year old Jeanetta Brown, 38 year old Princess Purnell and 26 year old Rasheed Hannah, all of Philadelphia PA, were all transported to Troop 9 where further information was obtained positively linking them to both incidents. A fourth suspect, who was not in the vehicle, remains unidentified at this time.

All suspects were charged with the following:

  • Organized Retail Crime Theft – Felony (2 counts)
  • Conspiracy 3rd Degree (2 counts)
  • Possession of Shoplifting Tools

They were arraigned in Justice of the Peace #7 and released on their own recognizance.
