Smyrna Man Charged with Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child

Smyrna – The Delaware State Police have charged 40 year old Michael R. Boorman of Smyrna with multiple offenses after it was determined that he sexually assaulted a juvenile female who was known to him.

Detectives from the Troop 2 Major Crimes Unit were able to determine that between January 2012 and September 2019, Boorman repeatedly sexually assaulted the victim, with the assaults taking place at the victim’s Blackbird-Greenspring Rd., residence as well as at other locations in the Smyrna area. The assaults began when the victim was 6 and continued until she was 12 years of age.

Boorman was taken into custody on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, and charged with the following offenses:

  • Rape 1st Degree (3 counts)
  • Rape 2nd Degree
  • Sexual Abuse of a Child by a Person of Trust 1st Degree (4 counts)
  • Sexual Abuse of a Child by a Person of Trust 2nd Degree
  • Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child
  • Dangerous Crime against Minor less than 14. Criminal Sexual Conduct (4 counts)
  • Unlawful Sexual Contact with Person less than 13 (2 counts)

Boorman was arraigned and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $1,090,000.00 cash bail.

Due to the sensitive nature of the incident and out of respect to the victim, only limited information is being released.
