Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest-Lewes

Lewes-  The Delaware State Police have arrested 20-year-old Sean P. McElwee of Georgetown, DE after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs.

The investigation began on February 22, 2020 at approximately 7:01 p.m., when a Trooper observed a black Volkswagen Jetta traveling eastbound on Pinetown Road at the intersection with Sweetbriar Road.  The operator failed  to come to a complete stop and utilize their turn signal.  A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, Sean P. McElwee when an odor of marijuana was detected.

A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted and the following was located:

  • Approximately 122.85 grams of marijuana
  • 43 edible THC candies
  • 2 Vyvanse 60 milligram pills
  • Drug Paraphernalia
  • Alcoholic beverages

McElwee was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession With Intent To Deliver a Controlled Substance (2 counts)
  • Possession of a Controlled or Counterfeit Substance
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (2 counts)
  • Underage Possession/Consumption of Alcohol
  • Turn or Move a Vehicle without giving proper Signal
  • Failure to Stop At a Stop Sign

McElwee was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on his own recognizance.
