Date Posted: Thursday, December 26th, 2019

William P. Aikens Jr. ARRESTED

Milton, Delaware – The Delaware State Police have arrested a Milton man after he was found to be under the influence for the 6th time.

The preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred on Wednesday, December 25, 2019, at approximately 9:16 p.m., when a trooper on patrol observed an Isuzu Rodeo stopped in the road impeding traffic on West Springside Drive, Milton. A traffic stop was conducted and after contact with the driver, William P. Aikens Jr., a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected. Aikens appeared to be intoxicated and in fact showed multiple signs of impairment. A DUI investigation was initiated and a computer inquiry revealed five previous DUI convictions. Once Aikens was taken into custody he came disorderly by yelling and using abusive language which caused neighborhood residents to exit their homes. Aikens then refused to enter the patrol vehicle after multiple requests that he stop resisting and to get into the patrol vehicle. Once in the patrol vehicle Aikens continued to yell and violently kicked the door causing damage to the patrol vehicle.

An inventory search of the Isuzu Rodeo revealed a plastic sandwich baggie with marijuana weighing 1.3 grams. Aikens was transported the Troop 7, Lewes where he was attempted to be processed. He refused to submit to processing and having his fingerprints and mug shot taken.

William P. Aikens Jr., 54 of Milton, was charged with his 6th Offense DUI (Felony), Resisting Arrest, Failure to Comply with taking Mug Shot and Fingerprints, Criminal Mischief, Possession of Marijuana, Disorderly Conduct, Failure to have Insurance and other traffic-related charges. He was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,800.00 secured bond.
