Troopers Arrest Seaford Man for Assault on Law Enforcement Officer-Laurel

Laurel- The Delaware State Police have arrested 42-year-old Burton F. Carmean after a warrant attempt led to him assaulting a Law Enforcement Officer.

The incident occurred on November 14, 2019 at approximately 3:15 p.m., when members of the Sussex Governor’s Task Force (GTF) responded to a residence in the 11000 block of  Taylor Mill Road, Laurel, for an arrest attempt of Carmean who was wanted for a Violation of Probation issued by the Sussex County Court of Common Pleas and also for a failure to appear capias issued by the Kent County Court of Common Pleas.

Upon arrival, Carmean was initially seen outside and proceeded to run back inside the residence.  Detectives eventually located Carmean hiding in a bedroom in the residence.  Carmean continued to resist arrest and proceeded to charge at an officer.  Carmean struck the Trooper and was subsequently taken into custody.  The Trooper sustained minor injury and did not require medical attention.

Carmean was transported back to Troop 4 where he was charged with the following:

  • Assault 2nd Injure a Law Enforcement Officer
  • Resisting Arrest with Force or Violence that Injures Law Enforcement Officer
  • Menacing

Carmean was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $10200.00 cash only bond.
