Warrant Attempt Leads to Drug Arrest- Rehoboth Beach

Rehoboth Beach– The Delaware State Police have arrested two suspects after a warrant attempt led to the discovery of drugs.

On November 12, 2019, at approximately 8:00 a.m., members of the Delaware State Police and US Marshal’s Fugitive Apprehension Task Force responded to the Econo Lodge, located at 19540 Coastal Highway, Rehoboth Beach, DE, to execute a warrant in reference to 28-year-old Durron E. Jones Jr., of Dagsboro, DE, who was wanted out of Delaware State Police Troop 4 for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and other traffic related charges stemming from an incident on November 10, 2019 in which he fled from Troopers.   In addition to Durron’s outstanding warrants, information was obtained that he was potentially involved in the distribution of illegal drugs and was preparing to flee the State. Troopers observed Jones and his 25-year-old girlfriend, Chelsea L. Cooper of Millsboro, DE leaving the Econo Lodge with their belongings.  As officers approached Jones he attempted to flee on foot and was subsequently apprehended a short time later.  Cooper was taken into custody without incident.

The following items were located and seized during the incident:

  • Approximately 0.6 grams of marijuana
  • 164 bags of heroin (approximately 1.148 grams)
  • Over $100 in suspected drug proceeds

Jones and Cooper were transported back to Troop 7 and charged with the following:

Durron Jones:

  • Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance
  • Possesses a controlled substance in a Tier 1 quantity
  • Conspiracy Second Degree
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Possession of Marijuana

Jones was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $6,251.00 cash bond.

Chelsea Cooper:

  • Possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance
  • Possesses a controlled substance in a Tier 1 quantity
  • Tampering With Physical Evidence
  • Conspiracy Second Degree
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Cooper was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released on $10,500.00 unsecured bond.
