Traffic Stop Leads to Drug and Weapon Charges-Harrington

Harrington- The Delaware State Police have arrested two suspects after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and a weapon.

The incident occurred on September 5, 2019 at approximately 2:04 p.m., when Troopers observed a Honda Civic blocking the flow of traffic on Mill Street, Harrington.  A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, 18-year-old Nathan Sample of Felton, DE and passenger, 21-year-old Eric R. McDonald of Richmond, VA.  During the course of the traffic stop, an odor of marijuana was detected, and it was learned through a computer inquiry that both subjects had active capias’.

A subsequent search of the vehicle was conducted and the following was located:

  • Approximately 144.6 grams of Marijuana
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Over $600.00 in suspected drug proceeds
  • A Hi-Point 9mm Rifle

Sample and McDonald were transported back to Troop 3 where they were charged with the following:

Nathan Sample:

  • Possession With Intent To Deliver a Controlled Substance with an Aggravating Factor
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited Who Also Possesses Controlled Substance
  • Conspiracy Second Degree
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Driving While Suspended
  • No person shall stop, stand, or park where obstruct free passage of traffic

Sample was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $21,000.00 secured bond.

Eric McDonald:

  • Possession With Intent To Deliver a Controlled Substance with an Aggravating Factor
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited Who Also Possesses Controlled Substance
  • Conspiracy Second Degree
  • Possession of Marijuana

McDonald was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $25,500.00 secured bond.
