Troopers Arrest Camden Man for Burglary-Camden

Camden– The Delaware State Police have arrested 29-year-old David D. Smith in connection with a burglary.

On August 28, 2019, Troopers began investigating a residential burglary that occurred in the 100 block of Lucks Drive, Camden, DE.  It was discovered that during this incident, the suspect removed several tools from inside the residence.  Through investigative measures, Smith was identified as the suspect.  It was learned that Smith had pawned several of the items at a local pawn shop.  On September 4, 2019, Smith was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 3 where he was charged with the following:

  • Burglary Second Degree
  • Theft
  • Selling Stolen Property
  • Falsifying Business Records
  • Selling Stolen Property

Smith was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and issued a $5,500.00 cash only bond.  Prior to being transported to the Sussex Correctional Institution, Smith complained of medical problems and was transported to the Bayhealth Kent General Hospital for an evaluation.  While at the hospital, Smith fled from police custody.  With the assistance of the Smyrna Police Department K9 Unit, Smith was located a short distance away on the hospital grounds. 

Smith was subsequently charged with Escape Second Degree and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on an additional $2,000.00 secured bond.
