Troopers Arrest Wyoming, DE Man In Fatal Pedestrian Crash- Wyoming

Wyoming, DE– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in which a Wyoming man has been charged in connection.

The incident occurred on August 17, 2019 at approximately 8:32 p.m., when a blue Dodge Neon was traveling westbound on Front Street towards North Layton Avenue, Wyoming.  The operator of the Neon, 26-year-old Bradford J. Husfelt of Wyoming was attempting to pass a vehicle on the right side that was in front of him.  Husfelt proceed to drive on the sidewalk and partially onto a front yard of a residence.  The Neon then struck a landscape timber and continued to drive partially on the sidewalk and the yard.  A pedestrian was walking on the sidewalk and was subsequently struck by the Neon.

The pedestrian, a 78-year-old male from Wyoming, DE, was transported to the Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.  His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

Husfelt continued to drive away from the scene and was later located at his residence in the 100 block of Center Street, Wyoming.  The Neon was located at the residence covered with a car cover.  Husflet was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 3 where a DUI investigation ensued.  Husfelt was charged with the following:

  • Manslaughter Recklessly Caused Death Of Another Person
  • Leaving Scene of a Collision Resulting in Death
  • Hindering Prosecution
  • Driving While Suspended or Revoked
  • Reckless Driving
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Drug
  • Operation of an Unregistered Motor Vehicle
  • Driving Off Roadway
  • Drive Motor Vehicle on Sidewalk or Bike Path Prohibited
  • Cars Involved in Death Remain at Scene for the Arrival of Police
  • Failure to Report an Collision Resulting in Injury or Death
  • Following a Motor Vehicle Too Closely

Husfelt was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $58,650.00 cash only bond.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
