Smyrna- The Delaware State Police have arrested a Smyrna man after a traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs.
On June 25, 2019, at approximately 7:18 p.m., Troopers observed a black Nissan Maxima displaying a fictitious license plate. A traffic stop was initiated on DuPont Highway (SR 13) at the south Smyrna exit ramp. Troopers made contact with the driver, identified as 40 year-old Elwood M. Hunter. During the course of the traffic stop, it was determined that Hunter was operating an unregistered motor vehicle with no proof on insurance. Further investigation led to the discovery of 1,126 bags of heroin (approximately 7.882 grams) and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. There was also a small child in the back seat of the vehicle who was not properly restrained.
Hunter was taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 3 where he was charged with the following:
Hunter was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $41,250.00 secured bond.
