Superintendent Colonel William Crotty
Millsboro- The Delaware State Police have arrested a Laurel man after a traffic stop led to him resisting arrest and assaulting multiple Law Enforcement Officers.
The incident occurred on May 22, 2019 at approximately 7:33 p.m., when Troopers were on patrol on Long Neck Road, south of School Lane. Troopers observed a gold Acura passenger car traveling southbound on Long Neck Road playing it’s vehicle radio at an extremely high volume. A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, identified as 44-year-old Tyrone C. Fassett. The Trooper immediately observed what appeared to be cocaine in plain view inside the vehicle. It was also learned at this time that Fassett did not have a valid driver’s license. Troopers requested Fassett to exit the vehicle at which time he refused to do so. Once Fassett was out of the vehicle, he continued to actively and forcibly resist arrest. Three Troopers sustained minor injures as a result of this incident and declined medical treatment. During the incident one of the Troopers sustained damage to their property.
Fassett was subsequently taken into custody and found in possession of approximately 9.5 grams of cocaine/crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia. He was transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with the following:
Fassett was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $54001.00 cash only bond.
