Troopers Arrest Georgetown Man for Felony Assault-Lewes

Lewes- The Delaware State Police have arrested a Georgetown man after he physically assaulted a victim.

The incident occurred on April 4, 2019 at approximately 12:52 a.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the Beebe Hospital in reference to an assault complaint that occurred on John J. Williams Highway, Lewes.  Upon arrival Troopers learned that a 19-year-old victim had engaged in an altercation with his girlfriend’s brother, 20-year-old Kevin Shorter.  The victim and his girlfriend were driving in a vehicle when they saw Shorter walking on John J. Williams Highway.  The victim proceeded to exit the vehicle and confront Shorter in reference to an early dispute that the two had engaged in.  Shorter proceeded to threaten the victim and grabbed a large rock.  Shorter struck the victim with the rock, causing serious injuries.

The victim was privately transported to the Beebe Hospital and later transferred to the Christiana Hospital with serious, non-life threatening injuries.

Shorter turned himself in at Troop 4 and was charged with the following:

  • Assault First Degree
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
  • Terroristic Threatening

Shorter was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and released after posting $21,000.00 secured bond.
