Troopers Arrest Three Suspects for Burglary and Related Charges-Smyrna

Smyrna- The Delaware State Police have arrest three suspects in connection with a burglary that occurred in early August 2018.

The incident was reported to have occurred between August 4 and August 11, 2018 when the suspects forced entry into a residence located in the 300 block of Southern View Drive. Once inside the suspects consumed the residents alcohol and food.  Prior to leaving the residence, the suspects removed a PlayStation 4, two firearms, and a Mercedes Benz.

Through investigative measures, Troopers identified the suspects as; Brian Sadler, 19 of Smyrna, Kashar McIvor, 19 of Smyrna, and Douglas Hodges, 19 of Smyrna.

Brian Sadler was arrested on November 29, 2018 at his residence located in the 900 block of Alexandria Way. Sadler initially resisted arrest and was subsequently taken into custody after a brief struggle. Troopers discovered a single bag of heroin in Sadler’s possession.  He was transported back to Troop 3 and charged with the following:

  • Burglary Second Degree
  • Theft of a Firearm (2 counts)
  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle
  • Theft
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Possession of heroin

Sadler was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $20,500 secured bond.

In addition to the evidence gathered in reference to the burglary, it was determined Kashar McIvor sent a 12 year old female sexually charged messages.  McIvor was arrested on November 28, 2018 without incident.  He was charged with the following:

  • Burglary Second Degree
  • Theft of a Firearm (2 counts)
  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle
  • Theft
  • Sexual Solicitation of a Child Under 18

McIvor was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 11 and is pending committal on $79,000.00 cash only bond.

Douglas Hodges was arrested on November 29, 2018 at his residence located in the 200 block Southern View Drive without incident. He was transported back to Troop 3 and charged with the following:

  • Burglary Second Degree
  • Theft of a Firearm (2 counts)
  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle
  • Theft

Hodges was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $10,000.00 secured bond.
