Date Posted: Sunday, October 28th, 2018

ARRESTED Doris M. Harris, 42 of Wilmington

Newark, Delaware – The Delaware State Police have arrested Doris M. Harris, 42 of New Castle, on assault and weapons charges stemming from an incident that occurred yesterday afternoon.

On Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 12:32 p.m., troopers responded to the Extended Stay America Hotel located at 333 Continental Drive, Newark, Delaware for a reported stabbing with a large kitchen knife. Upon arrival on scene troopers made contact with the desk clerk who directed them to the location of the victim and the suspect. Troopers made contact with a 52 year old Wilmington woman, who had sustained a stab wound to her lower extremity, in the employee break room on the first floor. Troopers approached Harris as she was walking away from the troopers with her hands concealed in front of her body. Verbal commands were given for her to drop what she was carrying and to show her hands. She complied and was placed into handcuffs without incident.

Harris advised she was cleaning a guest’s room and was approached by the victim who accused her of stealing Pine-Sol cleaning solution. Both argued which turned into a fight where Harris grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed the victim. The victim was treated on scene with a non-life threatening injury by EMS before being transported to local area hospital.

Doris M. Harris was transported to Troop 6 where she was charged with one count each of Assault 2nd Degree and Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony. She was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and was committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in default of $35,000.00 secured bond.
