Troopers Investigating North Wilmington Bank Robbery

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a north Wilmington PNC bank that took place Saturday morning.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:23 a.m., Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the PNC branch located at 1704 Marsh Rd. A male suspect entered the business, approached a teller and provided a note demanding money. The teller complied with the demand and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash to the suspect, who was last seen on foot towards the intersection of Marsh and Silverside Rd.’s. The teller was not injured as a result of the incident.

The suspect was described as a black male, 40-50 years of age, 5’7” tall, 160 lbs., wearing all dark clothing to include a hat.

Clerk Stabbed during Robbery Attempt – Newark

Newark (19702) – The Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a Newark area Dollar General store in which a clerk was stabbed.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:56 p.m., Thursday, February 21, 2019 at the Dollar General located at 1154 Pulaski Hwy., Newark. A male suspect loaded a shopping cart with assorted merchandise and exited the business without paying. An employee of the business confronted the suspect outside the business and attempted to recover the merchandise. A brief struggle ensued over possession of the shopping cart at which time the suspect produced a knife and stabbed the victim in the knee. The suspect then relinquished possession of the cart and fled on foot towards Pulaski Hwy., without any property. The victim sustained a minor laceration to his knee and was treated at Christiana Hospital.

The suspect was described as a black male, 40-45 years of age, 5’9” tall, 230 pounds, wearing a dark colored sweatshirt, blue jeans and a dark colored hat.

Townsend – The Delaware State Police have identified Jamie L. Powell, 35 of Dagsboro, as the driver who was killed when her vehicle traveled off of State Route 1 northbound in the area of New Discovery Rd., and became submerged in a retention pond. The crash occurred at approximately 1:06 p.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2019.

Troopers Investigate Attempted Robbery with Suspect at Large-Millsboro

Millsboro– The Delaware State Police are currently investigating an attempted robbery and are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the suspect.

On February 21, 2019, Troopers were dispatched to the 28000 block of John J. Williams Highway in reference to a robbery investigation. Upon arrival, it was learned that the victim, a 34-year-old male from Millsboro was walking in the area of the Harris Teeter’s, Longneck when he came in contact with an acquaintance, 37-year-old Don D. Zakrociemski of Millsboro.  The victim advised Zakrociemski that he needed to go to the M&T Bank to cash a check.  Zakrociemski offered the victim a ride, and the victim subsequently entered the vehicle.  Zakrociemski drove the victim to the M&T Bank, Millsboro and the victim cashed his check.  When Zakrociemski and the victim left the bank, the victim realized that he was being driven in the opposite direction of where he was headed.  Zakrociemski proceeded to a private lane off of John J. Williams Highway and parked the vehicle.  Zakrociemski began demanding the money and a struggle ensued.  The victim was able to exit the vehicle and proceeded to take off on foot.  Zakrociemski proceeded to follow the victim onto private property in his vehicle and attempted to strike the victim with the vehicle.  Prior to police arrival, Zakrociemski fled the scene.  The victim sustained minor injuries as a result of the physical altercation and was not struck by the vehicle.

Troopers have been unable to locate Zakrociemski who currently has active warrants out of Troop 4 for the following:

  • Attempted to Commit Robbery Second Degree
  • Reckless Endanger First Degree
  • Assault Third Degree
  • Criminal Mischief

Camden– The Delaware State Police Troop 3,  2018 “Year In Review” that was scheduled for Tuesday, February 26, 2019 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Troop 3’s David B. Pulling Community Room located at 3759 S. State Street, Camden-Wyoming, has been postponed.

Delaware State Police Camp Barnes Applications Available

Delaware– Applications for Camp Barnes will be available online or at any Delaware State Police Troop on March 1st 2019.  Applications can be downloaded at the camp’s website  www.campbarnes.net starting March 1st.  Dates for the camp and camp orientation dates will be listed on the website.

Camp Barnes is a recreational summer camp that is run and operated by the Delaware State Police. Camp Barnes is an overnight camp that is FREE to those attend. Children between the ages of 10-13, who are residents of the State of Delaware, are eligible to apply.

Some of the many activities campers participate in throughout the week include the following:

  • Swimming in an Olympic size pool
  • Kayaking in Millers Creek
  • Archery
  • Basketball
  • Soccer
  • Lacrosse
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Nature Walk
  • Fishing/Crabbing
  • Talent Show
  • Camp Olympics

Camp Barnes has a staff of 16 counselors (8 male and 8 female). All Counselors are required to submit to a criminal background and are interviewed prior to being hired.  The staff also includes 1 on site nurse, 1 head cook, and 1 assistant cook. A State Trooper will be on duty at all times when the camp is in session.

Camp Barnes is NOT a boot camp or intended for youth with behavior or disciplinary problems.

Campers are required to get a physical exam or an updated physical exam prior to being accepted to Camp Barnes. It is encouraged that all parents get an updated physical for their children as soon as possible in preparation for the camping season. The camp will fill up very fast.   The camp was full in 2 weeks last year.

Campers will not be assigned a week until an up to date physical is turned in.

*UPDATE* Troopers Investigating Vehicle into Pond SR 1 Northbound at New Discovery Rd.– Townsend

Townsend – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate a single vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 1:06 p.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2019 on State Route 1 northbound in the area of New Discovery Rd., Townsend.

The initial investigation has determined that a 2016 Hyundai Sonata, operated by a 35 year old Dagsboro woman, was traveling northbound on the curved portion of State Route 1, just north of New Discovery Rd. The operator, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, lost control on the snow covered roadway, at which time the vehicle slid off the east edge of the roadway and down a snow covered grass embankment, entering into a retention pond. The vehicle became completely submerged in the water and the victim was unable to exit the vehicle.  The victim was extricated from the vehicle by rescue divers, and then transported to the Christiana Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Identification of the victim is pending notification of next of kin.

Lewes-  The Delaware State Police have identified the name of the pedestrian who was killed in a crash involving a Freightliner concrete pumper truck on February 19, 2019, as 29-year-old Arturo Roblero-Velasquez of Georgetown, DE.

The crash continues to remain under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.
