Newark– Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a motor vehicle crash in which a pedestrian has been struck by a Tractor Trailer. State Route 7 southbound is currently open.
Motorists should use caution in the area.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing with further information being released as it becomes available.

Magnolia- Delaware State Police arrested a Magnolia teenager after it was discovered that he posted threatening comments on social media towards a High School.
The preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at approximately 10:00 a.m. when Troopers were informed by an employee of the Caesar Rodney School District of a concerning post that was posted on social media. The post depicted a subject holding a handgun while making a threatening statement towards Salesianum High School, Wilmington. Through further investigations, it was determined that the subject in the post was identified as 14-year-old Timothy S. Walters 3rd. Timothy had recently been removed from Salesianum High School and was in the process of being enrolled at Caesar Rodney High School.
On Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at approximately 11:50 p.m., Troopers responded to Timothy’s residence located in the unit block of Apple Blossom Dr., Magnolia. Contact was made with Timothy and his mother. It was discovered at this point that there were firearms in the residence that had all been accounted for.
On Thursday, January 25, 2018 at approximately 1:05 p.m., Timothy was brought to Troop 3 with his parent, and subsequently charged with Possession of a Firearm (Handgun) by Person Prohibited (Juvenile) and Terroristic Threatening. Timothy was arraigned out of Family Court and committed to the Stevenson House Detention Center on $12,500.00 secured bond.

Bear – Delaware State Police with the assistance of the New Castle County Police, have arrested Thomas Watson, 33, of Bear, for his involvement in a string of armed robberies, after a stand-off with police yesterday afternoon, at a Bear area residence.
Beginning on December 30, 2017, Troopers began investigating a series of armed robberies that were occurring in the Bear/Newark/Glasgow vicinity, in which the suspects description and actions were similar. With information provided by New Castle County Police detectives, regarding a similar robbery that they were actively investigating, Watson was developed as a suspect.
On Thursday, January 25, 2018, at approximately 3:12 p.m., Troopers responded to an armed robbery that had just occurred at the 24/7 Food Mart, located at 2445 Pulaski Highway, Newark, in which a white male suspect approached the cashier, displayed a handgun and demanded money. Utilizing the intelligence information previously provided by the New Castle County Police, Watson was positively identified as the suspect in this incident. Detectives were also able to ascertain that Watson fled the scene in a blue Ford Taurus.
While assisting with the search for Watson, Delaware State Police helicopter Trooper 4 located a blue Ford Taurus and was able to maintain visual contact with the vehicle, as it pulled in to the driveway of a residence in the unit block of Primrose Drive, in the development of Brennan Estates, Bear. Troopers responded to the residence and were able to confirm the presence of both Watson and the Ford.
Due to Watson being armed with a handgun, a perimeter was immediately set up, which contained Watson within the residence. As a precautionary measure adjacent residences were notified of the situation and subsequently evacuated.
The Delaware State Police Special Operations & Response Team (SORT) responded to the residence and were able to take Watson in to custody without incident. Also taken in to custody was Jeannie M. Yu, 36, of Wilmington, who was observed moving the suspect vehicle from the driveway to the side yard of the residence, in an attempt to conceal it.
Through various investigative measures, along with evidence collected during a search of the residence, Watson was able to be linked to the below listed robberies.
Watson was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 2 where he was arrested and charged with 7 counts of Robbery 1st Degree. He was then arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2, before being committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $140,000.00 cash bail.
New Castle County Police also have warrants on file for Watson, charging him with the robbery of the 7-11, located at 60 Gerald Drive, Newark, which occurred on Tuesday, January 16, 2018.
Yu was arrested and charged with 1 count each of Conspiracy 2nd Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence. She was also arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2, before being committed to the Dolores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution in lieu of $2000.00 cash bail.

Bridgeville (19933) – The Delaware State Police are conducting an investigation into a homicide that occurred yesterday afternoon.
The preliminary investigation has revealed that on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at approximately 1:41 p.m., State Police were notified that a victim had been dropped off by a private vehicle at the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford. Upon arrival to the hospital, Troopers were informed that an 18-year-old male victim of Greenwood had been shot and succumb to his injuries. The shooting was reported to have occurred at the intersection of Newton Road and Adams Road, Bridgeville.
Newton Road at the intersection of Adams Road was closed for approximately one hour while Troopers secured and investigated the scene. The victim’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
This incident continues to remain under investigation by the homicide unit and further information will be released as it becomes available.

Newark (19701) – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate a motor vehicle crash which has claimed the life of Angela J. Moore, 85, of Bear.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:31 a.m., Tuesday, January 16, 2018, on U.S. Rt. 40 (Pulaski Hwy.) westbound, at Glasgow Drive, Newark.
A 2016 Ford Mustang, being driven by a 22 year old New Castle man, was traveling U.S. 40 westbound in the left lane, proceeding through the intersection with Glasgow Drive. Moore, who was driving a 2003 Nissan Sentra, turned right, off of Glasgow Drive, onto U.S. 40 westbound, proceeding into the left lane and directly into the path of the Ford. In turn the Ford rear-ended the Nissan, forcing it into the grass, center median where it came to a stop. The Ford came to a stop in the U.S. 40 westbound lanes, just west of the point of the collision.
Moore, who was properly restrained, was transported to the Christiana Hospital where she was admitted with serious injuries. She ultimately succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. Impairment is not being considered as a factor on her behalf. Moore was issued a citation on the date of the collision for Failing To Yield Right of Way.
The operator of the Ford who was also properly restrained, was transported to the Christiana Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Impairment is not being considered as a factor on his behalf.

Bear – The armed robbery suspect who was being contained inside a residence, in the unit block of Primrose Drive, in the development of Brennan Estates, Bear, has been taken in to custody without incident.

Claymont – Delaware State Police are investigating a robbery/kidnapping that took place in the parking lot of the Tri-State Mall last week.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:00 p.m., Thursday, January 18, 2018, in the parking lot of the Tri State Mall, located at 333 Naaman’s Road, Claymont. A 23 year old, Clifton Heights, Pennsylvania, man was walking to his vehicle, which was parked in the lot, when he was approached from behind, by a suspect who placed a gun in his back. Two additional suspects then approached and proceeded to remove property from his pockets, to include a cell phone, cash, jewelry, along with his car keys.
The victim was then escorted to his vehicle by the three suspects, who locked him in the trunk before driving away. The victim estimated that he was driven around in the trunk of his vehicle for approximately 3o minutes prior to it coming to a stop. After approximately 5 minutes of the vehicle being stationery, the trunk was opened and the victim was able to get out. By the time he exited the trunk, the suspects had fled, however they did leave the keys behind. Upon driving away the victim was able to determine that he was in Chester, Pennsylvania.
The only description the victim could give of the suspects is that they were all black males. The victim did sustain a contusion to his head, for which he did not seek medical treatment.

This prestigious event occurred on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at the Delaware State Police Museum located at 1425 North DuPont Highway, Dover. The Superintendent of the Delaware State Police, Colonel Nathaniel McQueen Jr. spoke at the event and helped recognize the importance of the ceremony.
Troop 1: Captain John Laird partnered with Ivy Harlev
Ivy Harlev has served as the Executive Director of the Siegel JCC for the last 11 years. Since taking on the role of Executive Director, Ivy has overseen the introduction and implementation of a strategic plan, the addition of the J-Loop jogging track and the J-Cade interactive fitness space, and expansion of the Early Childhood Center to over 200 students. Ivy has worked in the JCC field for the last 25 years. Starting with the JCC of Greater Palm Beaches as the Youth and Teen Director, she then worked at the JCCs of Greater Philadelphia. Ivy joined the team at the Siegel JCC in 1998. Ivy has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Business from the University of Florida and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania. Additionally, Ivy holds a certificate in Jewish Communal Services from Gratz College.
Troop 2 (Patrol): Captain Jason Sapp partnered with Eric Williams
Eric Williams was born and raised in Delaware in North Wilmington, went to Sanford School then to Wesley College and Graduated from Brandywine College in 1992. He has worked at Cabela’s for 4 years where he is the marketing manager. Eric is involved in the community with the honor to serve on the board for the DNG Youth Foundation, The Ronnie Williams foundation, The USO Board of Advisors and NCC Ducks unlimited board.
Troop 2 (CIU): Captain Pete Sawyer partnered with Kate Parker West
Kate Parker is the statewide coordinator of the pretrial demonstration initiative at the Delaware Center for Justice. As coordinator she advocates for evidence based policies that promote a safer, fairer, and more effective pretrial justice system. She relies on a consensus driven reform process and is responsible for coordinating collaboration between criminal justice stakeholders and implementing DCJs community advocacy campaign. Prior to joining the DCJ in 2014, Kate served as an Assistant Deputy Public Defender with the NJ Office of the Public Defender in Cumberland County’s trial team, a law clerk in Camden County Chancery Court, a program evaluator for a children’s mental health program with the University of Delaware’s Center for Community, Research and Service, and a florist. Kate is a trained mediator and is working with DCJ staff to develop a yoga and meditation program specifically for adult victims of crime.
Troop 3: Captain Joshua Bushweller partnered with William Andrew
William Andrew is the President and CEO of Delaware Electric Cooperative located in Greenwood, Delaware. He is a graduate of the University of Maryland, BSME in 1977 and Bill received his professional registration in 1982. His utility experience covers 40 years and he has been associated with all aspects of the utility business from gas to electric; operations to design; core business to subsidiary operations. Bill joined the Delaware Electric Cooperative in 1998 as Vice President of Engineering and Operations and was promoted to his present position in January, 2005. In addition, Bill is the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Old Dominion Electric Cooperative. He is a board member of The Virginia, Maryland, and Delaware Association of Cooperatives, ACES Power Marketing, The Federated Rural Insurance Company, The Harrington Raceway and Casino, and the Delaware State Fair, Inc.
Troop 4: Captain Rodney Layfield partnered with Paul Downes
Paul Downes was born and raised in Laurel Delaware. He started with Mountaire in 1978 as a Flock Supervisor and has served in many leadership positions within the company. Currently he serves as President/CEO and on the Board of Directors. Mountaire is the 7th largest poultry company in the United States and has about 8000 employees with over 4500 of them in Delaware. Paul was awarded the J. Frank Gordy Sr. Delmarva Distinguished Citizen Award for 2017, DPI’s highest award. He also serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the National Chicken Council.
Troop 5: Captain Alice Brumbley partnered with Mary Johnson
Mary Johnson has a Bachelor of Science degree from Delaware State University in Community Health. She works in the capacity of a Trainer/Educator III with the state of Delaware for twenty-nine years. In her capacity as a Trainer/Educator III she works with several diverse communities in Sussex County by setting up programs that encompass a wide variety of health issues. Mary has given presentations on bullying, personal hygiene, respect, self-esteem, healthy relationships, Social Determinants of Health, and Health Equity Guide training to name a few. She validates that “just because you are down, it doesn’t mean you’re out.”
Troop 6: Captain Matthew Cox partnered with Thomas Laymon
Reverend Tom Laymon is a graduate of Olivet Nazarene University and Nazarene Theological Seminary, with Graduate Work in Christian Social Ethics at Emory University. He has 30 years in ministry with 23 years in Rescue Mission Ministry, starting at Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries in 1989 as Church Relations Director. He then became the Executive Director at Mel Trotter Ministries in Grand Rapids, MI and oversaw the expansion of the ministry from 50 men to 350 men, women, and children in shelter and Program. Since May 2003, Tom has been President/CEO/Sr. Pastor of Sunday Breakfast Mission in Wilmington, DE during which he has seen the Mission’s expansion to be the largest fully privately supported non-profit in the Delmarva region with a budget of more than $5 million and serving 55 men and 70 women and children in program, as well as, 120-180 overnight shelter guests together with many other services. Annually, the Sunday Breakfast Mission provides over 300,000 meals and over 75,000 nights lodging. The Mission’s free 14-20 month Rehabilitation Program for men and women has seen over 210 graduates with over 75% not returning to a lifestyle of drugs, alcohol, jail or homelessness. The Mission’s Annual Back to School Rally and Alazar’s Basketball Camp reaches thousands of inner-city youth with character and spirit building to resist drugs and gangs.
Troop 7: Captain Darren Short partnered with Amy Schnerr Norgate
Amy Schnerr is the General Manager of Tanger Outlet Center in Rehoboth Beach, DE. A native of Philadelphia, Amy attended Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore, Maryland, then moved to the Rocky Mountains, first to Yellowstone National Park, and later to Park City, Utah for 16 years. Amy has been in the shopping centers business for 27 years, marketing and managing over 20 properties, large and small, in 8 states. Since 2011, Amy has served on the Board of Directors of the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, the only organization in Delaware focused solely on breast health issues that affect the women and men who live here. In her current role, Amy is privileged to lead an outstanding team of management, security, and maintenance professionals in Tanger’s core mission: to provide Shoppers the latest and most popular brands at the best prices anywhere, with an experience so compelling they return over and over again with their Family and Friends.
Troop 9: Captain Daniel Hall partnered with Kevin Wood
Kevin Wood is the Owner/Operator at Chick-fil-A in Middletown, Delaware. Kevin opened this restaurant in September of 2012. Prior to joining Chick-fil-A, Kevin was a career law enforcement officer with nearly 20 years of Leadership experience with the Maryland State Police. The majority of his career working as a detective in the Criminal Investigation Division and Homeland Security and Intelligence Divisions. He finished his career with the Maryland State Police as a Lieutenant working in the Baltimore Joint Terrorism Task Force. Kevin was drawn to Chick-fil-A by shared values with the Company and an entrepreneurial spirit. He enjoys working with young men and women and hopes to develop future leaders.
Both the Delaware State Police Troop Commanders and the newly selected Honorary Commanders are looking forward to their mutually beneficial partnerships and working alongside each other throughout the state this coming year.

Bear – Delaware State Police are currently on scene at a residence in the unit block of Primrose Drive in the development of Brennan Estates, Bear, where an armed robbery suspect is confirmed to be located. A police perimeter has been set up which has contained the suspect and measures are underway to take him in to custody.
Adjacent residences have been evacuated as a precautionary measure and all others are being asked to avoid the area. Anyone who observes any suspicious activity in the area is asked to call 911.

Dover (19901) –The Delaware State Police are investigating a home invasion that occurred last evening.
The preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred at approximately 8:57 p.m. Wednesday, January 24, 2018 when troopers responded to the 1300 block of South Little Creek Road for a reported home invasion. Upon arrival, Troopers made contact with a 35-year-old male resident. The 35-year-old victim advised Troopers he agreed over the phone to meet a female in reference to purchasing an iPhone. The victim responded to an agreed upon location and met with the female in a parking lot. The female had proceeded to entered the victims car to discuss the purchase of the iPhone. The victim advised the female that his money was at his residence at which time the two of then drove to his house.
Upon the victim exiting his vehicle, he was approached by two males displaying firearms and demanding money. The victim was then forced inside of his residence. While the two male suspects where inside of the victim’s residence, they ransacked a bedroom. When they did not find any money, they forced the victim at gunpoint back into his own vehicle. The suspects then proceeded to drive the victim around in his vehicle demanding to know the location of the money. The suspects eventually returned to the residence, and again forced the victim back inside of his house for a second time. The suspects obtained several items prior to fleeing the scene.
The first suspect was described as a black female, 20-30 years of age. The second suspect was described as a black male, approximately 20-30 years of age, 6’00”-6’02” tall, wearing a face mask partially covering his face, a light colored sweatshirt and displaying a handgun. The third suspect was described as a black male, approximately 20-30 years of age, 6’00”-6’02” tall, thin build, wearing a dark colored sweatshirt and also a face mask partially covering his face, and displaying a handgun. No further suspect information could be provided at this time. The victim was not injured as a result of this incident.
