*TRAFFIC ADVISORY* Train Derailment Causes Road Closures – Wilmington

Wilmington –  At approximately 6:45 a.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2021 a freight train derailed in the area of Centerville Rd. and Boxwood Rd. There were no injuries associated with the incident.

As a result of the derailment Centerville Road is closed between Boxwood Road and Century Blvd. Limited access will be made available for local traffic only.

The roadways are expected to be closed for an extended period of time while the train cars are removed and necessary repairs are completed.

*UPDATE- Victim Identified* Delaware State Police Conducting Homicide Investigation- Magnolia

Magnolia- Delaware State Police identified the individual who was killed during an altercation on February 6, 2021, at approximately 3:25 a.m., on Millchop Lane, Magnolia, as 37-year-old Sergio Wilkerson of Smyrna.  

Delaware State Police arrested 46-year-old James Palmer of Dover for the murder of Wilkerson and charged him with the following crimes:

  • Murder 1st Degree (Felony)
  • Attempted to Commit Murder 1st Degree (Felony)
  • Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)- 2 counts

 

Palmer was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $1,120,000 cash bond.

Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Bear Man for Felony Drug and Weapon Charges- Bear

Bear–  Delaware State Police arrest 27-year-old Jahmere Irvin of Bear on felony drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop on Saturday night.

On February 20, 2021, at approximately 9:35 p.m., Delaware State Police conducted a traffic stop on a red Subaru sedan in the area of Pulaski Highway and School Bell Road for a registration violation. As contact was made with the occupants, a strong odor of marijuana was detected inside the vehicle. Troopers contacted the 24-year-old male operator of Wilmington and front-seat passenger, later identified as Jahmere Irvin. A criminal investigation ensued. When the driver was questioned if there was any marijuana inside the vehicle, Irvin produced a plastic bag with approximately 59.98 grams of marijuana to the trooper. Irvin was removed from the vehicle, and located on his person was a Jimenez Arms Inc 9mm handgun with a magazine containing nine live 9mm rounds with one in the weapon’s chamber. Also, on his person was approximately 31.16 grams of marijuana.

A probable cause search was conducted on the Subaru, and the following was located inside:

•Approximately 1,089.56 grams of marijuana
•Drug Paraphernalia
•11- 9mm Lugar live ammo rounds

Irvin was taken into custody without incident and charged with the following crimes:

•Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
•Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
•Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
•Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited (Felony)
•Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #11 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $31,500.00 cash bond.

The 24-year-old male operator was issued the following traffic citations and released:

•Failure to Transfer Title and Registration
•Operation of an Unregistered Motor Vehicle

Delaware State Police Investigating a Fatal Single Motor Vehicle Collision- Magnolia

Magnolia– Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of a 39-year-old Felton woman.

On February 20, 2021, at approximately 10:44 p.m., a 2019 Acura MDX operated by a 37-year-old male of Felton was traveling southbound on McGinnis Pond Road approaching a sharp right bend in the roadway, north of Lexington Mill Road.  The operator failed to negotiate the curve and exited the travel lane, crossing into the northbound lane, and exited the east edge of the roadway before traveling through a private yard and striking a tree with its front bumper.

After striking the tree, the vehicle rotated in a clockwise manner before coming to rest and catching fire. The operator exited the Acura on his own, but the front seat passenger had to be removed by nearby responding citizens. Neither appeared to have suffered injuries from the fire.

The 37-year-old male operator was transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

The 39-year-old female front seat passenger was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3.5 hours while the investigation was completed, and the roadway was cleared.

Millsboro Woman Arrested for Felony Theft From Employer- Millsboro

Millsboro– Delaware State Police arrested a Millsboro woman after an internal theft investigation determined over $5,000.00 was stolen from the Uncle Willies located at 28194 DuPont Blvd.

On February 19, 2021, at approximately 2:27 p.m., Delaware State Police responded to Uncle Willies for an internal theft report.  The investigation determined 29-year-old Danielle Serman of Millsboro was an employee of Uncle Willies. Since December 2020, Danielle has been voiding or refunding purchases and removing cash from the register. Approximately $5,000.00 was stolen from the business since December.

Danielle was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 4, where she was charged with the following crime:

•Theft $1500 or Greater (Felony)

She was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and released on her own recognizance.

Troopers Arrest Camden Man on Drug and Weapon Charges and Seeking Public’s Assistance Locating Wanted Camden Man

Camden- Delaware State Police arrested 55-year-old Malcolm L. Deshields of Camden on felony drug and weapon charges following a criminal investigation and is seeking the public’s assistance with locating 26-year-old Emory Bratcher of Camden, wanted on similar charges.

On February 19, 2021, Delaware State Police responded to a residence on Thomas Harmon Drive to conclude a criminal investigation regarding Malcolm L. Deshields dealing drugs. A search warrant was executed on the residence, and located inside was Deshields. In addition, a 16-year-old male of Camden, a 42-year-old female of Camden, a 62-year-old female of Harrington, and a 61-year-old male of Camden were located inside the residence.

Located during a search of the residence were the following items:

  • Approximately 48.56 grams of cocaine
  • Approximately 36.32 grams of marijuana
  • 1- Glock 22 .40 caliber handgun
  • 1- Beretta APX .40 caliber handgun
  • 1- Smith and Wesson .22 caliber rifle
  • Drug Paraphernalia
  • Magazines and ammunition for the various weapon

 

                      Malcolm L. Deshields

Malcolm L. Deshields was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 3 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity- Cocaine (Felony)
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Deshields was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and released on his own recognizance.

 

At the time of the incident, the 16-year-old male refused to comply with the troopers commands to place his hands behind his back and resisted arrested. He was charged with the following crime and released:

  • Resisting Arrest

 

                             Emory Bratcher

Also wanted in connection to this investigation is 26-year-old Emory Bratcher of Camden. Delaware State Police are seeking the public’s assistance with locating Bratcher. He is wanted on the following charges:

  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance Tier 3 Quantity- Cocaine (Felony)
  • 3 counts- Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited (Felony)
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony)
  • 3 counts- Breach of Conditions of Bonds
