Wilmington, DE- Delaware State Police are conducting a homicide investigation that occurred Saturday night in Wilmington.

On October 2, 2021, at approximately 10:09 p.m., troopers were dispatched to the 3800 block of Governor Printz Blvd for a reported shooting. Upon arrival, troopers located a 63-year-old Wilmington man in the roadway with multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The initial investigation revealed the victim parked his vehicle in the median strip of Governor Printz Blvd and entered a nearby liquor store to make a purchase. As he returned to his car and sat in the driver seat, an unknown suspect approached the vehicle and fired multiple rounds at the victim before fleeing on foot.

There is currently no suspect information available.

This case remains an active and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit. Milford, DE- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred Saturday morning in Milford.

On October 2, 2021, at approximately 11:32 a.m., a 2015 Chrysler 200 operated by a 53-year-old Milford man was traveling northbound on Coastal Highway, approaching the SR 1 Business off-ramp within the Milford town limits. For unknown reasons, the operator failed to maintain control, and the vehicle swerved to the right and exited the east edge of the roadway. After leaving the road, it overran a barbed wire fence before the front center impacted a tree. After impact, the vehicle came to rest beside the tree and became fully engulfed in flames.

The 53-year-old operator suffered fatal injuries during the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The right lane of Coastal Highway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the scene was processed and cleared.

Clayton, DE- Delaware State Police arrested Richard C. Lawson III, 33, of New Castle, on attempted murder and related charges Friday night.

On October 1, 2021, at approximately 9:48 p.m., troopers were dispatched to a residence in the 3900 block of Wheatleys Pond Road for a shooting incident. Upon arrival, troopers contacted the 33-year-old female victim, who had an apparent gunshot wound to the face. The investigation determined the victim was driving on Wheatleys Pond Road in her vehicle with an acquaintance, Richard C. Lawson III when a verbal argument ensued. The argument escalated to a physical altercation before Lawson produced a handgun and shot the victim. After being shot, the victim went for help at a nearby residence. Law Enforcement Officers responded to the area and located Lawson on foot in the 4700 block of Wheatleys Pond Road. He was taken into custody and transported to Delaware State Police Troop 3, where he was charged with the following crimes:

• Attempted First Degree Murder (Felony)
• Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
• Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited (Felony)

Lawson was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #7 and committed to Howard R Young Correctional Institution on a $100,000.00 cash bond. 

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and admitted in stable condition.

New Castle, DE- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred Friday night in New Castle.

On October 1, 2021, at approximately 9:48 p.m., a 2009 Chevrolet Tahoe operated by a 37-year-old New Castle woman turned left from Memorial Drive and was traveling southbound on US 13 in the middle lane. A 36-year-old New Castle man was attempting to cross the southbound lanes of US 13 and walked into the path of the Tahoe, resulting in the front left bumper striking him. The driver immediately pulled over to the right shoulder and called 911.

The 36-year-old pedestrian was not wearing reflective clothing, carrying a light, or crossing in a marked crosswalk. He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The 37-year-old operator was not injured during the collision. Also in the Tahoe was a two-year-old child properly restrained in the rear seat. The child was not injured during the collision.  

US Route 13 southbound at Memorial Drive was closed to vehicular traffic for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Seaford, DE- Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal bicycle accident that occurred Friday morning in Seaford.

On October 1, 2021, at approximately 10:46 a.m., a 2020 GMC Acadia operated by a 56-year-old Seaford woman was traveling eastbound on Stein Highway in the left turn lane approaching the intersection of Front Street. A 31-year-old Seaford man was riding a bicycle eastbound along the westbound shoulder of Stein Highway, approaching the same intersection. As the Acadia crossed through the intersection and began turning left onto Front Street, the bicyclist continued straight through the intersection and collided with the left front of the vehicle. After the collision, the Acadia came to a controlled stop within the northbound travel lane of Front Street next to the cyclist.

The 31-year-old bicyclist suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Identification is pending notification to next of kin.

The operator of the vehicle was not injured during the collision.

The intersection of Stein Highway and Front Street was partially shut down for approximately three hours as the scene was processed and cleared.

Dover, DE- Delaware State Police arrested Lauren Miller, 35, of Dover, after she stole a vehicle and crashed into a tree before fleeing from police and crashing the stolen truck into two troopers. 

On October 1, 2021, at approximately 12:09 a.m., troopers were dispatched to the 900 block of Voshell Mill Star Hill Road for a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck pulling a trailer struck a tree in the front yard of a residence. Before troopers arrived, the vehicle fled the collision scene and began traveling eastbound on Voshell Mill Star Hill Road. Troopers observed the Ford and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the truck. However, the operator failed to pull over and continued driving, intentionally swerving in and out of oncoming traffic. After the vehicle turned left onto South State Street and began traveling north, a trooper drove ahead of the suspect and positioned their marked Delaware State Police patrol vehicle in the southbound lane to stop oncoming traffic to protect the safety of approaching traffic. When the Ford reached the troopers’ location, the suspect intentionally drove into the southbound lane, striking the troopers’ driverside door, disabling the patrol vehicle. The suspect continued traveling northbound on South State Street, through the parking lot of Royal Farms located at 6 West Lebanon Road, then onto West Lebanon Road before crossing over the cement barrier and into the path of oncoming traffic. Next, the vehicle turned left onto South State Street and onto the lawn of a residence on South State Street. Another Delaware State Trooper attempted to positioned their marked patrol vehicle on the roadway to protect the public’s safety from imminent danger when the suspect drove toward the police car, striking the left front bumper. After hitting the trooper, the suspect turned around and began traveling toward West Lebanon Road and South State Street and eventually became disabled in the middle of the intersection. Troopers contacted the driver and gave multiple commands to exit the vehicle. The driver, later identified as Lauren Miller, failed to comply and was eventually taken into custody after being removed from the pickup truck. When troopers contacted Miller, a strong odor of alcohol was detected, and a DUI investigation ensued.

The first Delaware State Trooper struck by Miller was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries, where they were treated and released. The trooper is assigned to Delaware State Police Troop 3 and has been employed by the Delaware State Police for six years.

The second Delaware State Trooper struck by Miller was uninjured. The trooper is assigned to Delaware State Police Troop 3 and has been employed by the Delaware State Police for two years.

Miller refused medical attention and was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 3. During the investigation, troopers discovered the Ford F-150 pickup truck and trailer Miller was operating were stolen. Miller was charged with the following crimes:

• Assault Second Injuring a Law Enforcement Officer (Felony)
• Theft of a Motor Vehicle (Felony)
• Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony) 
• Two Counts- Reckless Endangering Second Degree
• Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
• Resisting Arrest
• Littering on a Highway
• Numerous Traffic Violations

Miller was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $17,905.00 cash bail.

Laurel, DE- Delaware State Police arrested Brandon D. Camper, 21, of Rehoboth Beach, on drug charges following a traffic stop Wednesday night in Laurel.

On September 29, 2021, at approximately 9:06 p.m., a trooper on routine patrol traveling eastbound on County Seat Highway east of Sussex Highway observed a Cadillac driving westbound in the same area traveling 75 mph in a 50 mph zone. A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle, and contact was made with the driver, later identified as Brandon Camper. An odor of marijuana was detected, and a drug investigation ensued. A computer check determined Brandon had an active capias out of Justice of the Peace Court for Failing to Appear. He was taken into custody without incident, and a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. Located in the Cadillac were drug paraphernalia and approximately 166.12 grams of marijuana.

Brandon was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 5, where he was charged with Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving While Suspended, and Speeding in Excess of 50mph. He was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3 and released on his own recognizance.
