Delaware State Police Investigating Shooting Incident

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred at a residence in Ellendale on early Saturday morning.

On May 28, 2022, at approximately 2:40 a.m., troopers responded to a residence on the 14000 block of South Old State Road, Ellendale for a report of shots fired. A 62-year-old victim present at the residence heard multiple gun shots and police were contacted. The ensuing investigation revealed that the residence had been struck by three rounds and a vehicle parked on the property was struck by a single round. The victim was not injured during this incident.

At this time there is no suspect information or surveillance images available.

The Delaware State Police Troop 4 Criminal Investigation is currently investigating this incident. Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Pedestrian Crash

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Friday night on northbound Route 1 in the area of Dupont Parkway, New Castle, DE..

On Friday, May 27, 2022, at approximately 8:27 p.m., a 2016 Chevrolet Traverse was traveling northbound Route 1 in the right lane, just north of the Route 72 on-ramp and approx. .25 miles south of DuPont Parkway. While traveling northbound, a pedestrian who was walking southbound in the northbound center lane entered the right lane directly in front of the Traverse. The Traverse was unable to avoid the collision and struck the pedestrian.  The Traverse then came to a controlled stop on the right shoulder of Route 1.

The 33-year-old male pedestrian of Jacksonville, FL, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision.  Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

The 30-year-old operator of the Traverse and the four occupants of the vehicle were not injured in the crash.

Northbound lanes of Route 1 north of Route 72 were restricted to just the left lane for approx. 2 hours while the investigation was completed, and the roadway was cleared.

This collision remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit. Delaware State Police Investigating Robbery of Tobacco Store

Delaware State Police are investigating the robbery of a New Castle area tobacco store that occurred yesterday afternoon.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:41 p.m., Friday, May 27, 2022, at the DOT Discount Tobacco store, located at 1422 North Dupont Highway, New Castle, when troopers responded for a report of a robbery. Investigation determined a male suspect entered the store carrying a trash bag and approached the rear sales counter. Upon contact with a male employee behind the counter, the suspect displayed a handgun and demanded money. The employee advised the suspect they did not have any money, so the suspect then demanded Newport cigarettes. The victim complied and filled the trash bag with an undisclosed number of cigarettes. The victim was then then demanded to a rear storage room before the suspect fled the scene on foot traveling northbound. The employee was not injured as a result of the incident.

The suspect was described as a black male approximately 5’9”-6’ tall, 170-190 lbs., wearing all dark clothing and a mask.

Delaware State Police Investigating Fatal Single Motor Vehicle Crash

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal single motor vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday night in the Dover area.

On May 25, 2022, at approximately 6:50 p.m., a 2000 Maroon GMC Jimmy was traveling southbound on Judith Road south of Dinahs Corner Road. The operator failed to negotiate a moderate left curve in the roadway and exited the western edge of Judith Road. The GMC then overturned onto its passenger side and continued to roll over until striking a large utility pole. The GMC came to rest on its roof just west of the utility pole.

The front-seat passenger, a 64-year-old Dover man, was not properly restrained and sustained serious injuries during the collision. The passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene of the collision. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next of kin.

The operator, Aaron Stevens, 61, of Dover, was transported to an an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A preliminary state police investigation suggests alcohol was involved. After being released from the hospital, Stevens was transported back to Troop 3 where he was charged with the following crimes:

  • Vehicular Homicide 2nd Degree (Felony)
  • 5th Offense Driving Under the Influence (Felony)
  • Failure to Remain Within a Single Lane
  • Failure to Have Insurance Card in Possession.

Stevens was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #7 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $16,150 cash bond.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the collision was being investigated, and the roadway cleared.

Traffic Advisory- Judith Road Closed for Serious Injury Collision

Dover, DE- Delaware State Police are currently on the scene of a serious injury collision on Judith Road in the area of Dinahs Corner Road. As a result, all travel lanes will be closed for an extended period of time. Motorists are urged to seek alternate routes of travel to avoid delays.

Delaware State Police Investigating Shooting, Suspect Remains At-Large

Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred in the Capitol Park neighborhood of Dover on Tuesday morning.

On May 24, 2022, at approximately 11:54 p.m., troopers responded to the residences on Congress Place regarding a report of shots fired. The ensuing investigation revealed that 45-year-old Jaron Jones of Dover, DE, had been involved in an argument with a neighbor. During the argument, Jones fired several shots toward the neighbor, which struck the victim, a 45-year-old man from Clayton, DE., who was standing nearby. Jones subsequently fled the area in a black Buick Enclave SUV and was last seen traveling northbound on Bay Road towards an unknown destination. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to his torso and arm. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he is currently in serious but stable condition.

Attempts to locate Jones have been unsuccessful, and his current whereabouts are unknown. Jones is described as a black male, approximately 6’03” tall and weighing approximately 215 pounds. A photograph of Jones’ vehicle has been provided.

Troopers Arrest Subject for Drug Charges Following Criminal Investigation

Delaware State Police have arrested 36-year-old George Reha of Seaford, DE on drug charges following a criminal investigation that began on Tuesday afternoon.

On May 24, 2022, at approximately 12:46 p.m., troopers responded to a residence located on the 22000 block of Ross Station Road in Seaford regarding a report of a disturbance. Upon their arrival, troopers made contact with a resident, identified as George Reha. During the course of their investigation, troopers discovered that Reha was in possession of approximately 3.41 grams of cocaine, approximately 19.80 grams of marijuana, and over $34,000 of suspected drug proceeds. Reha was subsequently taken into custody at the scene without incident.

Reha was transported to Troop 5 and charged with the following crimes:

  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Reha was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $11,000 secured bond.
