State Police Homicide Unit Conducting Death Investigation in Dover

The Delaware State Police Homicide Unit is conducting a death investigation in Dover after two people were found dead in a vehicle.

On April 20, 2025, at approximately 7:28 a.m., troopers responded to the intersection of Sharon Hill Road and Cahoon Branch Road in Dover for a death investigation. Upon arriving, troopers found a vehicle on the shoulder with 2 occupants that had apparent gunshot wounds. The occupants, a 33-year-old woman, and a 35-year-old man, both from Dover, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities are being withheld until their families are notified. Due to the nature of the incident, the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit assumed the investigation. Detectives believe there is no threat to public safety at this time.

Detectives Investigating Shooting at Bear Residence

The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred at a residence on Red Lion Road in Bear early this morning.

On April 19, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., troopers responded to a residence on Red Lion Road in Bear, for a report of a shooting that occurred in the area of the residence. The preliminary investigation revealed several shots were fired by an unknown suspect. An unknown suspect vehicle was reported to have fled southbound on Red Lion Road. Following the shooting, a 34-year-old man was taken to an area hospital by a private vehicle for an apparent gunshot wound.

There were no other injuries reported at this time. There is no further information available for the suspect or suspect vehicle at this time. Surveillance video and images are not available.

State Police Investigating Home Invasion in Smyrna

The Delaware State Police are investigating a home invasion that occurred Tuesday night in Smyrna. Troopers are seeking the public’s assistance locating the suspect, 33-year-old Steven Mauthe of Smyrna, Delaware, for multiple felony offenses.

On April 15, 2025, at approximately 8:39 p.m., troopers responded to a residence on Ivy Ridge Court in Smyrna, for a report of a home invasion and assault. The preliminary investigation revealed that Steven Mauthe entered the residence, which was occupied by the homeowner and a 76-year-old man, both of whom are acquaintances of Mauthe. Mauthe proceeded to get into an argument with the 76-year-old victim, during which he punched the victim’s face multiple times. Mauthe fled from the home; however, returned a couple minutes later, repeatedly punched the victim in the face, and then fled on foot in an unknown direction.

The victim was taken to an area hospital by EMS for his injuries. The homeowner was not injured. Troopers conducted a search of the area for Mauthe, but were unable to locate him.

State Police Detectives Investigating Shooting in Dover

The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in Dover last night that left one man injured.

On April 17, 2025, at approximately 6:14 p.m., troopers responded to the 1500 block of Nathaniel Mitchell Road in Dover for a report of a shooting. When troopers arrived, they learned that a 19-year-old man had been shot and was self-transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation revealed that an unknown black male suspect exited a maroon Kia Sportage, fired an unknown number of shots at the victim, got back in the vehicle and fled the scene. An occupied house and a vehicle on the property were also hit by gunfire.

At approximately 9:05 p.m., troopers saw a maroon Kia Sportage, that was reported stolen and matched the description of the vehicle involved in the shooting, traveling northbound on Walker Road near Bicentennial Boulevard in Dover. Troopers attempted to pull it over, but it sped away. During the pursuit, the Kia traveled on area roads and ultimately came to a stop on the 400 block of Sorrell Circle in Smyrna where five occupants fled. Troopers and allied agencies, along with DSP Aviation and K-9 searched the area and found four juveniles that fled from the vehicle. They were taken into custody without further incident. The fifth unknown suspect remains at large. The investigation is active and ongoing.


A 17-year-old male from Bethel, Delaware, was arrested and taken to Troop 3. He was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7, and released on his own recognizance to a parent and/or guardian.

  • Resisting Arrest

A 15-year-old female from Camden, Delaware, was arrested and taken to Troop 3. She was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7, and released on her own recognizance to a parent and/or guardian.

  • Receiving Stolen Property over $1,500 (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest

A 12-year-old female from Dover, Delaware, was arrested and taken to Troop 3. She was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7, and released on her own recognizance to a parent and/or guardian.

  • Receiving Stolen Property over $1,500 (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest

A 10-year-old male was also taken into custody but not charged and released to a parent and/or guardian.

State Police Investigating Shooting in Lewes

The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred Tuesday night in Lewes.

On April 16, 2025, at approximately 11:13 a.m., troopers responded to the 30000 block of Pinetown Road in Lewes for a late reported shooting. When troopers arrived, they learned that on April 15, 2025, between 8:00 and 10:00 p.m., an unknown suspect fired an unknown number of shots that hit a house and a vehicle. No one was injured, and the incident remains under investigation.

State Police Investigating Robbery in New Castle

Delaware State Police are investigating a robbery that occurred early Sunday morning in New Castle.

On April 13, 2025, at approximately 1:30 a.m., an Uber driver arrived in the area of Dock View Drive and Harbor View Drive to pick up a passenger. When the driver stopped, seven individuals entered his vehicle. After the driver told the group that he could only accommodate a limited number of passengers, several became disorderly and refused to exit.

As the driver stepped out of the car to call 9-1-1, three suspects threw him to the ground, stole his cell phone, and fled the scene in his black Nissan sedan. Luckily, he was not injured during the incident.

The suspects were described as black males and females, believed to be high school-aged.

State Police Investigating Attempted Robbery at Smoke Shop in Dover

Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted robbery that occurred Saturday afternoon at a smoke shop in Dover.

On April 12, 2025, at approximately 2:06 p.m., troopers responded to Smoke Beast, located at 220 Gateway South Boulevard, for a report of an attempted robbery. A preliminary investigation revealed that a male suspect had entered the store earlier that day before returning, pointing a handgun at the employee, and demanding merchandise. The employee did not comply, and the suspect fled the store without taking any items.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male wearing dark clothing, including a mask and gloves. He fled on foot in a northern direction.
