Laurel – The Delaware State Police are releasing the name of the 37-year-old man that was killed in Thursday evenings crash on Laurel Road as James M. Holloway of Laurel.

This crash remains under investigation by the Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Troopers Arrest Wilmington Man for Armed Robbery

Wilmington (19803) – Delaware State Police have arrested a Wilmington man for his role in an armed robbery, that took place during a drug deal, which occurred at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2017, in the parking lot of the Concord Mall located at 4737 Concord Pike, Wilmington.

The investigation has determined that while inside the Concord Mall, a 22 year old New Castle man, agreed to purchase marijuana from a subject later identified as Riquan Mack, 18, of Wilmington. Both subjects then re-located to the rear parking lot of the mall to complete the transaction. Once outside Mack demanded money from the victim while lifting his shirt, which revealed a black handgun tucked in his waistband. The victim turned over an undisclosed amount of money to Mack who then fled on foot. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident.

Through various investigative leads and measures, Troopers were able to positively identify Mack as the subject involved in the robbery. On Thursday, November 16, 2017, Troopers located Mack in a vehicle parked in the lot of Brandywine High School, at which time he was taken into custody without incident.

Mack was transported to Delaware State Police Troop 2, where he was arrested and charged with one count of Robbery 1st Degree. He was then arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court #2, and released on $20,000.00 unsecured bond.

State Police Investigate Home Invasion – Millsboro

Millsboro–The Delaware State Police are investigating a home invasion that occurred in the River winds Development last evening.

The preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2017 when troopers responded to the 27000 block of Devon Drive for a reported Home Invasion.  The investigation revealed that an unknown subject forced his way into the residence and once inside he immediately confronted a 32-year-old female demanding money from her.  During the confrontation the subject lunged at the female and attempted to grab her around the neck with his hands. The female was able to escape from the subject and ran towards a rear bedroom to notify her husband and five children.  Her 32-year-old husband immediately confronted the subject in the hallway and a scuffle ensued.  The subject smacked and punched the male victim on the left side of his face.  There was another 21-year-old male victim inside of the residence during the altercation in which he tried to intervene and all three began fighting.   During the scuffle the suspect was able to obtain the 32-year-old and 21-year-old victim’s cell phones in which he took prior to exiting the front door.  The suspect took off running towards Oak Orchard Road in an unknown direction.

The suspect was described as a dark complexioned black male, approximately 35 to 40 years old, 5’10″ to 6’00″ tall, heavy set, and wearing dark colored clothing.

The three adult victims as well as the five children ranging from 9 years old to less than a year old that were inside the residence during this home invasion did not request medical assistance.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Hit and Run Crash Involving Pedestrian-Ellendale

Ellendale– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal hit and run crash involving a pedestrian that occurred last evening.

The incident occurred around 10:48 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2017 as an unknown vehicle with an unidentified operator was traveling northbound on South Old State Road (CR 213), north of Robbins Road (CR 579). A pedestrian, 53-year-old woman from Ellendale was walking in an unknown direction in near the edge of the roadway.  As the unknown vehicle approached the pedestrian, its right side mirror and possibly front headlight struck her, causing her to be thrown onto the grass on the side of the road.

After the impact, the unknown vehicle fled the scene northbound.

The 53-year-old pedestrian, who wore dark clothing and not carrying a light was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Milford Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later.  Her name is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

South Old State Road north of Robbins Road was shut down for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Troopers Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash-Laurel

Laurel – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred last evening .

The incident occurred at approximately  8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2017, as a 37-year-old Laurel man was operating a 2000 Dodge Dakota traveling eastbound on Laurel Road (SR 24), approaching the intersection at Jestice Farm Road (CR 449A).  A 2013 Infiniti JX35 operated by a 31-year-old Laurel man was traveling westbound, approaching the Dakota.

As the two vehicles converged, the Dakota for unknown reasons left its lane of travel, entering into the westbound lane directly into the path of the Infiniti. In an attempt to avoid a collision, the operator of the Infiniti swerved to the right, exiting the roadway into a field.  The Dakota traveled through the westbound lane and shoulder, striking the front center of  the Infiniti in the field with its front center.  After impact, the Dakota was forced into a clockwise rotation, coming to rest partially on the shoulder. The Infiniti came to rest in the same area as the impact, in the field.

The operator of the Dakota who was not properly restrained, was removed from the scene and transported by EMS to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

A 32-year-old female passenger in the Infiniti was also transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital where she has been admitted with non-life threatening injuries.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into the crash.   It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor on behalf of the driver of the Dakota.  Laurel Road was shut down for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.  No charges have been filed at this time.

*UPDATE-Pedestrian Struck*-Route 40 at Wilton Blvd.-New Castle

New Castle– The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a motor vehicle crash in which a pedestrian has been struck and killed.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:31 p.m., Thursday, November 16, 2017, on U.S. 40 (Pulaski Highway), westbound, east of the intersection with Wilton Boulevard, New Castle.

A 2004 Acura TL, being driven by a 38 year old Newark man, was traveling  U.S. 40 westbound approaching Wilton Boulevard. A pedestrian, identified as Rosa Martinez, 67, of New Castle, was walking northbound across the westbound lanes of U.S. 40, when she was struck by the Acura. After impact the Acura came to a controlled stop and remained at the scene. Martinez was treated on scene by New Castle County Paramedics before being  transported to Christiana Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The initial investigation has revealed that the victim was wearing all dark clothing at the time of the collision. It was also determined that she was crossing the roadway against a red signal, and without utilizing a designated pedestrian crosswalk. At this time impairment on behalf of the victim is unknown.

Impairment is not being considered a factor on behalf of the Acura driver.

New Castle– Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a motor vehicle crash in which a pedestrian has been struck. U.S. Route 40 (Pulaski Highway), westbound, is completely shut down in the area of Wilton Blvd.

Motorists will experience prolonged delays in the area and should seek alternate routes of travel.
